Ohhh, they're so cute Sunny! BTW I was just joking with you about taking Poppy back.If I had a dog though... he would be dog food! It looks like he's been pecking feathers off of the backs of some of the girls. My patience is wearing really thin!![]()
ETA: Hey, I'm finally getting notifications again! WooHoo!
I'm from Las Vegas Nevada I would like to be added to list. Would like to get to know some nevadans
It's a lot easier to own chickens in Northern Nevada! Or about any other urban area that I know about. My landlady wants to own some in Naples, FL but has to have at least 2 acres to do that.
For a family thank-you present for all the hard work this summer, I ordered some shirts that have a red barn and say "Ames Family Farm." I'll take pics when they get here. It's this shirt, customized for us... http://www.inkpixi.com/item/Farm/A1...961877-7&utm_referrer=http://www.inkpixi.com/ But you know... in what other city can a mostly-sustainable farm exist in the backyards of a couple of 2-bedroom houses, a mile from downtown?
so cute! glad she got her babies!Meet Pot and Pie. Sour accepted them within a minute, even though they're just over a week old. They're mixed breed, not sure exactly what... the two daddies are a Jersey giant and a cochin, and I think the mom was part cochin. We chose two babies with the skinniest legs, but the lady we got them from said she would gladly take back any roosters.
definitely not crazy to us on this thread! i have saved various chicken treat recipes but haven't gotten around to making nay yet. let us know how they like them.Would I really be crazy if I made some homemade treats for my chickens?![]()
P.S. Sorry for the x-ray effect, it is suppose to be a light pink color, but for some reason, whenever I upload the picture, it turns out like this!
very nice looking guys! While I'm waiting for the chicks from the three broodies to hatch (and worrying about them making it through this heat), thought I'd share some pictures of the last hatch. They're about 2 1/2 months old.
Here's four EE boys. Do you think the one in the second photo is a splash? BTW, if anyone's interested, they're for sale and listed on CL but if someone here is interested PM me.
Here's one of my Polish at about 2 months. I thought it was a pullet at birth but now I'm seeing some spikes but I can't decide. Funny, this chicken can free range but instead hangs outside the Polish pen...birds of a feather? That's one of my WCB boys in the back. He has an amazing crest!
Here's one of the black (with a few white feathers). I have two like this only one is all black. I guessed these two to be boys but now I'm thinking girls by the crest. Anyone have an opinion? This photo was taken yesterday so about 2 1/2 months.
I haven't shared a picture of my EE Roo in awhile. Here's Big Daddy!
I shared these on the California - Northern so if anyone goes over there, sorry for the double posts...but nobody said anything about them over there.....![]()
so cute! it will be fun to see how they change as they get older.New peachicks!!!!!!
I finally got pics to upload!!! Well I used the URL instead but it worked.
OK I have tons more photos to unload but it's getting hot in the car (connection too weak at home) so I will post again next time I come into town.
welcome! glad to have another member of the thread!I'm from Las Vegas Nevada I would like to be added to list. Would like to get to know some nevadans
That's a great idea! I even have a separate pen and coop for breeding purposes. He and the two Black Am hens can move in there and get busy!Hmmm...life is too short for mean chickens. Maybe you should hatch out a few replacements. They'd be breeding ready by Spring....![]()
Greetings Nevadans!
New chicken keepers here from Reno, NV. Just found this regional thread and am so pleased to know there is an active chicken lovers group here in Nor. Nevada.
Hope you don't mind the re-post but this was from my earlier thread in the introductions forum:
Let me start by saying thank you to the BYC community for all your help so far. This forum has been an invaluable resource to us (my wife and myself). From tips to designing our coop, advice on dealing with 'pasty-butt, and much more, the BYC forum has provided great information and inspiration.
In May this year we took the plunge and brought home 8 beautiful chicks. We had considered chickens for several years and after reading many articles about the benefits of keeping chickens in publications like "Mother Earth News," "Hobby Farm Homes," etc. we couldn't resist anymore. My wife was initially the more enthusiastic on the venture but when I held the first chick in my hands I was hopelessly hooked.
Our Flock (so far):
Blue Silkie
Black Silkie
Blue-lace Red Wyandotte
Plymouth Barred Rock
White Cochin
Australorp
Buff Brahma
Buff Orpington (we got a Rooster, uh-oh)
Keeping chickens is much more satisfying than I expected. They are beautiful birds and their personalities are quite charming and unique. I find hanging out with them after a long day at work relaxing and soothing to frayed nerves. And while I eagerly await the first eggs I would be perfectly happy to keep them as pets if they never laid a one.
That's all for now and thanks again!
E and T
