Nevadans?

Geez I've only been off a few days and I missed 98 posts again.

3 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a kidney infection which are common enough, but after two weeks of antibiotics that were making me dizzy and nauseous. I was still running 100+ fever. Turns out they ran some tests on the lab work they got the first time, and my infection was caused by e coli which is pretty normal as well, but they think the infection has spread to other organs. So I'm basically bed ridden between the fever and the side effects of the meds, but they won't switch them because the lab results said that these were the most effective.

So SUNNY the barbed wire is still here if you want it, but you'll have to either come get it or get some help. I'm afraid it will be awhile before I'm up and moving around much.

I'm with you RON we love netflix. I haven't had cable in years. There isn't much worth watching on TV these days, certainly not a lot that's appropriate for my children. Plus being so sick its been nice to watch my favorite shows and old movies without campaign ads or commercials. I'm a big x-files fan too. I also like Bones, and primeval, and as a family we watch a lot of history shows and nature documentaries.

Hey NV, I have a friend broke down in Fallen NV. Can anyone suggest where he should get help? He's a retired Fire Fighter (Chief) coming back from Burning Man! The truck is spewing oil.

His nickname is Chicken Bone!

Coming back to CA from Burning Man - and he's in Fallon? If so, he's going the wrong way! If however, he's in Fernley, then I do know someone who can help him. A couple of friends of mine have an auto shop there - Fernley Tire & Brake - 775-835-6190 - they are excellent mechanics and nice people, too. Ted and Mike are their names. Even if he is in Fallon he could probably get towed to their shop, it's only about 30 miles.

Are you aware of the benefits of yogurt? Plain, unsweetened. If you eat it enough and have those good little bugs running around in your system, they can kill off e-coli bugs!

My family loves Primeval too! Actually, we love just about all science fiction shows that aren't borderline horror. Star Trek, Babylon 5 that sort of thing. Did you guys know about a website, watchseries.com? It has whole series from tons and tons of TV shows. And its totally free!

Hope you recover quickly! That sounds horrible. Get lots of rest if you can!

We gave up cable, too, especially when the bill got to be over $2/day for viewing priveleges when basically all we were watching was network news. However, I did relent and resubscribe for a two-week period for Shark Week. Now I find out that I could've done it for even less, as in 1 week. But the extra week allowed DH and I to catch up on all the shows we liked (Man v. Food, No Reservations, Bizarre Foods, Ghost Adventures on the Travel channel) and preview the ones we'll NEVER watch again ("Here comes Honey Boo Boo" and all the other hillbilly stuff, like handfishing for catfish and gators, shows on turtle skinning and whatnot. And just when did shows about scoring at auctions for real estate, storage units and old luggage become so popular and take over the previously educational History and A&E channels?....it's all the same show, just different venues.) I did enjoy "Property Brothers" on HGTV, though, as I'm contemplating a fixer-upper as my next big project and they had some innovative ideas. But I'm in agreement.... The rest is pretty much useless and it's a nice luxury to have NetFlix (joined by RedBox) for selective viewing fare. At present we're doing the latest on DVD season of Dexter.

A few years ago I had to do a deposition of one of the "Housewives of Orange County" who was really miffed that I had NO idea who she was. That was pretty funny, IMHO, but fairly standard for me. I've done a bunch of sports figure's depos where the attorneys are all falling all over themselves and I was "Okay. Can I have your name, please?" and still hadn't a clue. Mea culpa.... My media ignorance is gianormous....and I think that's a good thing, although it would probably sink me on Jeopardy.

We got rid of ours 3 and 1/2 years ago. It's sheer BLISS!!!!!!! Especially around the holidays, when I don't have children screaming that they can't live without a certain toy. We get artwork done, and gourmet cooking, and gardening, and reading. And we even go to bed on time, too! We have no clue that we're not supposed to be happy unless we live in a fancy suburban home, with two cars and I-Phones for everyone. The last time I followed TV, Heroes was in Season 1, Breaking Bad was just debuting, and the first Real Housewives show had just started. But I really do miss watching The Soup. We can't find regular episodes of that online, and it's hilarious.

I can do that. I write tasting notes every week for our customers and employees. I'll teach you the keywords so it sounds like you know what your talking about!

BTW, I'm not a fan of food cooked in wine either, I'd much rather drink it while I'm cooking then cook with it.

That would be quite a trick trying to make Steve and I sound like we know what we're talking about when it comes to wine! But we are up to new challenges. :D
Hey Sunny, you got online before I could leave a message that you couldn't get online! It was date night with Russ, so I'm just barely back to the computer. Sorry!

Check out post # 184. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/666977/viva-las-vegas/180 He lost his little Barnevelders and I think some other chickens as well. Washed away! So sad!

Argh! I gotta go grade some papers so I can get to bed!
So sorry to hear about your friend's loss! That is so sad. :(

OK I miss teaching but I do not miss grading papers! That was not the fun part of the job!
Okay, this is my diet for most of the days now. I do get to eat more than I've ever eaten before but with all the miles I walk everyday and the foods I eat you would think I would only weigh 90 pounds:
Life is not fair. I eat pretty much whatever I want and although I need to lose 15 pounds to be heart healthy again I am pretty lucky to not be 300lbs the way I eat.

Sunny the link would be great to add.

Ron here ya go https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/california-thread-members-list-and-helpful-information

There are things I'm going to set up different when I get a chance.
Thanks Kim! :)
I need to get my daughters "vegan" recipe for pancakes. She makes them with zucchini and the kids go mad for them!
Sounds yummy! I rarely eat pancakes but I do love a good zucchini bread. I make a dense whole wheat pancake w/ honey and sunflower seeds that I adore but they are time consuming to make.

Oh Man! Sorry you are so sick! That stinks. Hope it leaves you alone soon. I agree that yogurt or that Natura stuff, while on antibiotics, is a must. Those things kill the good bacteria as well as the bad.

No rush on the barbed wire. We still have fencing and two more coops to finish before we can start the terracing project. I just hope we don't get any downpours like they had in the LV area before I get to it. We'll be shoveling mud instead of snow if that happens.

Yes to Bones!!! Love that show! I do miss the History Channel as well as HGTV, Food Network and a few others.

When I get out of this black hole of technology I am def gonna check this site out. What is Primeval about? I loved the X-Files, Star Trek (The Next Generation was my favorite), Terra Nova (but I think they were already getting predictable by the end of season one) and those shows that talk about strange phenomenon. Course we also love nature shows (we were kinda nature show junkies before we dumped cable), etc.

Yeah my kids used to say I should go on Millionaire but I always answered that the pop culture and celebrity questions would do me in. I really stink at that kind of stuff.

Never heard of most of those shows you mentioned. See I am BAD at this stuff!

Never heard of The Soup. I don't have TV and I still never get to bed on time. I'm guess I'm a bit of a nightowl but not as bad as I used to be.

Primeval is a British show about a group of scientists (plus a zoologist and a conspiracy theorist) who discover rips in the fabric of space/time called anomalies. These anomalies open do different eras in the past and future, and they have to deal with creatures from those eras. Very exciting and suspenseful. I recommend it.
