Nevadans?

Noodle is still broody, but I'm not going to do anything about it. I have about 15 currently laying, so I'm just going to let her be grouchy and eventually grow out of it. I miss those light blue eggs in the carton, but I'll get them back eventually. I could put her in the hospital coop after I move Tapas and Paella out into the main flock, and see if that breaks her, but I also don't want to deal with the noisy drama either. We'll see.

Yeah. I certainly don't want chicks to care for but these girls can do all the work and I just feel for them every day. Every day for the past three months I check under them for real eggs then I put the fake egg back and lil frizz gently guides it back under her. They're so cute! Plus I'd really like to see them back with the flock!

Zoo Doo! re: mountain lion urine... It reminds me of my neighbors when I had the ranch up near Auburn. They had a deer problem that even 6-foot high fences couldn't keep 'em out of their ornate veggie garden. And so they went to the zoo and got some lion excretions and scattered it about. The deer vanished, but my neighbors couldn't figure out where their sheep went. It turns out that the lion scent was very effective at keeping the deer away, BUT it attracted mountain lions to the property who by far enjoyed the easier-to-catch sheep. (Something about scent marking territories, etc.) Oh, well.... One lion was actually shot INSIDE another neighbor's barn where it decided to lounge atop the hay bales....not something I'd like to encounter first thing in one's morning chores.

re: Zombies.... We've got the Zombie Apocalypse Store down here in Las Vegas that caters to everything zombie and the preparation for the invasion. My nephew is big into the craze and nearly every T-shirt is something zombie-fied. I don't have cable, so cannot tune in to The Walking Dead. Is the first season out on DVD yet? I catch a fair share of zombie movies, though. "Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies" is pretty forgettable, that is, unless you're a fan of Savannah, GA, and Fort Pulaski and you don't mind a REAL BIG dose of revisionist history.

Sorry not to have contributed lately, but I've been lurking when I've been able to catch a moment. Been very bizzy as Mom's Parkinsons took an extreme turn for the worst and we're having to deal with multiple falls and hospital visits, moving to assisted living, etc. She's got a monstrous house to downsize out of and an equally huge amount of paperwork to reckon with. The logistics of it all are a giant energy-and-time-sucking black hole. Someday I hope to get my life back!

Hey, I wanna see some flamingo pictures. That sounds fab! Any chance little flamingos will wend their way onto a wedding cake? It'd be cool to find some flamingos-in-formal-wear figurines as a cake topper.
Dee you crack me up! Love the formal flamingo topper idea. Even a cake with piped frosting flamingos would be uber cool! I wish I knew how to decorate cakes. One of the few things I've never pursued that I thought would be super fun to do.
So very sorry to hear about your Mom though. Hopefully things will get better soon. Sounds like a huge energy drain emotionally and physically.

sooooo.... how does one go about harvesting wolf urine???
I'm not sure I want to know the answer to this question...
hmm.png

Very very carefully.

Maybe they're smart wolves, and the owner has them trained to relieve themselves in a communal trough? Maybe painted bulls-eyes on the bottom, like some parents do with potty training? Float little plastic boats in the trough so they can try to sink them?
HA! *snigger*
I can just see the police report:

"Suspects were apprehended on suspicion of illegal drug activity. An unknown liquid substance was confiscated from them at the time of arrest."

Then we have to explain it to the judge:

"Your honor, it was just wolf urine! See, we're crazy chicken people and..."

Eeeeeeew!!!!
LOL I've had worse on my hands.
well geeze, went outside to check on mama and babies and one of the babies, Pickle, has died. I have no clue how, he was fine this morning. Two guesses- he had a vaulted skull, perhaps he accidentally got hit in the head- or maybe caught the bug everyone else had. I dont know but its pretty sad :/ That vaulted skull was really nice considering.
Ohhhh!

Poor baby! I've read that the vaulted skull does make them prone to brain injuries. We lost a few polish chicks from that shipment of WCBP due to head injuries.
"I'm going to Jacksonville, Florida October 31st and will return November 9th. I'll be more than happy to take eggs or bring eggs back with me. Just let me know."

Hi Sunny,

I have three Silver Wheaten hens from Bev. I don't have a rooster though. They are in with a Buckeye rooster. They lay really nice dark eggs. Were you wanting to hatch pure Marans or just want the dark eggs? The buckeyes lay a beige-ish egg, light brownish. The result of the cross would be a little lighter egg, I think, but still pretty dark brown. These girls lay REALLY dark eggs! In fact, there is a picture that I just sent to a woman back east for hatching. She put them up on the WYGS thread. If you want to see the pic, I'll go find a link and come back and edit.

If they're still laying in November, and you're interested, maybe I could bring you some.

Black Copper Marans are my thing. I have quite a few of them and get lots of eggs the color of the ones you posted but I am doing a dark egg project so the eggs I am mostly getting are not dark enough for my project. I only have 1 gal that lays eggs even darker and her's are the only one's I hatch right now. I sure would like to get a few more super dark layers for my hatching project. I have 2 roos that came from super dark eggs so I am set there. Just need more pullets! *I know, that's what everybody says*

Here's a sample from my marans (and other layers). As you can see most of these are not what most marans' owners are looking for when hatching BCMs. I was just hoping for some of Bev's BCMs cause her's are supposed to be the darkest according to the guy that runs the egg shows on the west coast.

I love my birds from Bev. They are so much bigger than the ones from other lines.

Ok. I decorate cake ans so do a couple of my daughters. Veronica is really into it and has a small business other than her job. She'd like to open her own place one day. Swans are easy. You can use gumpaste or fondant. I can't add a pic with this problem going on with the site, but I'll post some when I can. Oh and you can make gold fondant, just remember to use gloves or do them way before you plan to use them, so you can get the dye off your hands.

Yeah with fondant flamingos would be super easy to do too. The real talent comes when using butter cream frosting.

I love to watch folks that excel in this area work! It is amazing what they can do! I've seen pics of cakes your daughter has done Kim. She is very good at it and her cakes are super cute.
