Nevadans?

Well, I am just fine with no snow sticking this weekend! We have to do the last lawn mowing and run the mower out of gas... I still have to mulch Garden #2's garlic... I have 2 barrels of compost for the menfolk to move to Garden #2... Need to cover the artwork on my chicken coop since I couldn't find the polyurethane to refinish it while the weather was still warm... and that's just what I have to do OUTSIDE tomorrow! I'm going to stick a huge to-do list on the fridge, and maybe offer rewards for whoever gets the most done.

Update:
*One of my buff orpington hens died about a month ago (R.I.P Sandy) :(
*All my chickens except for one is done with molting finally!
*The girls either aren't laying eggs for the past month and a half, or they are being stinkers and making me go on an early easter egg hunt!
*And finally, the most excting news (drum roll please)... I ordered my spring chicks today! The only reason I didn't share an order though was because I know no one would want to order from My Pet Chicken. Sorry guys :/. My mom didn't want to deal with any roos and I wanted a silkie (to raise from a chick), so I had to order from them.

I ordered a mixed flock:
2 white silkies (just in case one turned out to be a boy)
1 speckled sussex
1 australorp
1 easter egger
and 1 barred rock

Can't wait until spring!!!

All of the sudden I'm craving an ICEE. Have no idea why...

Congrats on the new chicks coming Tolipgirl! I'm only getting 2 eggs a day from my 60+ chickens so I feel your pain. OK so several are roos and others aren't old enough but STILL! I went from 2 dozen eggs a day to 2! 2!!!

Awesome! I agree on the silkie, though. I'm on my 4th, and this one was guaranteed to be a girl before I got it! Weren't you going to get a black silkie, too?

2??? I'm still getting about 8 a day, and that includes the duck eggs. So about 6 a day, from 18 layers. As soon as I have a little cash, I'm going to go buy some lighting and a timer for the coop, and see if that helps.

That would probably work here. We live rather close to a 7-11.

Thanks for the sympathy. lol I love to bake and this is the time I like to start and, of course, this is when the cold weather and molting slow the egg production way down. I also get a lot more requests from customers at this time, probably for the same reason. I have pullets that are getting close to POL though so I should have more coming soon.

Yes lights definitely help. I don't know if I am going to stress about putting lights in. I guess it depends on how long this goes on. It's been about 5 days now so I'm not too worried yet. They look like they are about finished losing feathers so hopefully they will start laying soon. Maybe putting the coops so far from the house wasn't the best idea after all. I wonder how much a solar panel would cost?

That is a great price. The website doesn't list reviews for this item. I've been reading so much about these solar panels good and bad. I'd feel better if I could get a couple of reviews on it. Anybody tried this brand or have another brand they are happy with?

A light isn't helping my egg production.

Or maybe it is - and it could be a lot worse! Virtually all of the chicks I got last year are molting at the same time. So that is all of my EEs, plus the BOs and SLWs. And 'Tude and Sis have both decided that they are not only not broody anymore, but they're on strike from laying! So I'm not getting anything but brown eggs from my two year ago flock. They all lay very large to downright huge brown eggs though, so that's a plus. Production is definitely less than half of normal - maybe only a third. I have my light plugged into a thermocube, so it comes on when the temp goes below 35º and goes off above 45º.
