New 2 week old ducklings questions.

The only difference between the cool side and the lamp side is that the cool side has a lid and the side with the lamp has no lid, can that be why there not going to the lamp?
Is it a clear bulb instead of red? Many don't like the harse, white light. Also, seems from research that ducks like the perimeter of the lamp, not under. However if their brooder isnt big enough, they cant get to a perimeter.

MHO, 90 degrees is too hot for 2 weeks olds. Shoot for 80. They will gravitate toward the temp they want, and a larger brooder allows that. That’s why many say your brooder may be too small for them. A 5 dollar kiddie pool from the dollar store seems a good brooder size. Just use old cardbords boxes, flattened out, to create higher walls.

and ducks like to snuggle/huddle. It makes guessing at temp hard I know.

Its worth a try to see how they react. Our kiddie pool has a 4foot inside diameter with 5, one week old duckies. They seem to find a temp zone they like and still sit on each other. Yesterday, when it got up to 65 they started opening their beaks, so I adjusted. Then adjusted back for the 40 degree night.

Unfortunately the temperate battle is real for the first few weeks.

Ok thanks. I think i figured out what was wrong. I uncovered the part that was covered and now they are chilling right in the middle. Im gonna put the cover back on later just in case they like it.

I'd say they are too hot. Seems like larger breeds overheat faster than others. Plus ducklings just don't need as much heat as baby chicks.
I use a rubbermaid tote also and I don't even use an actual heat lamp because it heats it up in there too much.

Ok thx ive lowered the temp to 80 but if i see them having issues I’ll just turn it off completely.
