New addition on our 11 month old unfinshed coop

Love the pointed/angled fascia.....is there a name/term for that?

I believe its called a prow roof. On the coop it exaggerated a little more than it its on my house. But after the boards went up I was happy with the look. The idea was more protection for the siding.

So aart. in my pervious post I mention vents. did any of that make sense.

Quote: Ah, prow roof makes sense, thanks.....very cool, aesthetically pleasing and functional.

Sounds pretty good to me, low venting is good, wish I had more of that.
The more vents the better, and the more adjustable and weather proof they are the even better.

My shed I built my coop in had static lights (old slider panels) cleated in and I was able to top hinge them so they can stay propped open all summer. Even with tons of venting, cooling the coop down after a hot humid summer day is tough. I use a fan on the east side of coop, where there is good shade most the day, to blow cool air in starting in late afternoon, that sure helps... even if it is a halfassed setup, just a box fan hanging in the window.

Ok so I got about a half days of work in on Tuesday. Its pretty much framed out for plywood inside and board and baton spruce on the outside. That is unless I make any changes, hence the slow down to really think this threw. I'm liking what I see so I'm thinking I'm ready to go after some plywood for the inside soon. I am also thinking of taking out the middle wall with the door in it, that is behind that first framed window in the picture. That is one of the 2 walls come that still need taken out of the inside. I am just thinking about how I could use them still for introducing our new chicks................

Looking good Scott.

What are the 3 thicker horizontal boards on the bottom right of 2nd picture for?
Im going to go look for windows for my coop today so I can finish framing everything out. Not sure how to do that but I'm going to do my best. Love the board and batten look. My garden shed has that and I love that look. Great job!

In the last picture is a vent I placed 10" or so off the ground. I attached some boards around this and the window to give me an area to attached trim on the outside of the coop. Like trim door and windows. That way I just don't attach trim to a 1" board but to a solid stud.

See in this pic I could put screws out further on the trim that go into the board and into a stud I used 3" screws . The trim and board are each 1" thick so the screw is 1" in a blocked area around that window. That helps everything sit flatter.

Ok, got it. Looks great. I'll be referring back when I get to my windows. In a debate now whether to buy windows or make my own. I really want my windows to hinge up to use as a semi-rain shield so I want to build but DH wants to buy. Couldn't find any old windows on craigslist or restore store. So dont want to highjack your thread, build is coming along nicely and its a good inspiration for me.
