New Brahma Group: Blue Partridge x Partridge, Plus Dark

Pics
Among the 3 1/2 week old group, I'm calling two pullets and one cockerel. The chick that is six days older than these, I'm still on the fence about. I didn't see any red/gold chest feathers on that one, but we'll see. So either I have three pullets and one cockerel or an even split.

Bonnie laid an egg today and has quit clucking. I put her back with Bash and her chicks are in the dog crate by themselves right now. When Brandy here leaves hers, all the chicks will be together. I may have to sell them all this time around.

Here is the older chick, almost 5 weeks old. I'm thinking pullet now, which would give me a pair or trio to sell and keep one or two, depending on what I sell. I want to see who is straight PT and who is BL. PT. first, though.

I have my first broody. She started sitting on Monday. I snuck 2 other eggs under her. I have buff Orpingtons with a silkie cockerel. I think the eggs are fertile based on looking at them when I crack them. I had ordered 4 new pullets to be shipped 4 weeks from yesterday. I am wasn't sure if I should let her brood her eggs or give her ceramic ones till the chicks come and then try to graft them on her.

But then my husband got her all set in the dog kennel in the coop and she looked so cozy that I decided we'll leave her be. But i was worried about trying to integrate two new groups.

It sounds like maybe I can put the 4 chicks with the hatched ones once mama is done with them? Should I put all the chicks at that point in the dog kennel in the coop and then try to integrate them? I'm all stressed about the integration and was going to try brooding in the coop but my broody girl messed that all up.

You can try that. It's easier to integrate youngsters with other youngsters than adults, usually, I've found. Since Bonnie is done with hers and Brandy may soon follow, I'm going to put the two groups together until I sell the extras.

Eventually they'll have to go with the adults but I only have 3 hens now and the rooster and space for 12 so I hope they will integrate ok.

They all look so peaceful together - remember how terrified the Brahma kids were when the terrorist BR's crashed the party last year?

The 5 week old Brahma chick. Was going back and forth because I thought I saw color in the comb, but has a pullet shape and no orange chest/shoulder feathers.

The 4 week old cockerel is already very obvious with longer body and very bright orange shoulder/chest feathers. Could not get a good picture of him today.
