New BYC Auction System - Want To Buy A Chicken (Just A Test)

Okay everybody... a question:

Many of the BST posts are like this:

"I've got a RIR rooster, 3 buff orp chicks, 2 maran chicks, and 4 Delaware hens for sale! Who is interested?"

So, how would you suggest we encourage members to setup their listings using the new system to make things work as well as possible? How many listings would that be? 1? 4? 10?

I would say 4. If it was 1 listing, I think it would get confusing and if it was 10 it would "clutter" up things.

Since at this point the auction would be a member benefit, limiting people to 3 auctions at a time, or less, would be prudent. I can already see some members listing a dozen or more auctions simultaneously and all the time. That would simplify things at first.

Once the system is up and the bugs are being worked out then more simultaneous auctions can be allowed or even encouraged.

My $.02

Another thought and sorry if it was already covered: Would new auctions appear when clicking "recent posts"? If so I'd suggest trying to work around that somehow. Many members, including myself, use "recent posts" instead of going into each sub forum. Clogging up that screen with auctions would seriously limit people asking for help and generally ever other post out there.

Keeping auctions independent and in their own section would be prudent, in my opinion.

I guess now I'm at $.03.

Does the auction appear just like this one? With the auction listing at the top and postings underneath it? Or will it be just the auction block? If it has the postings like this one, there will still be room for chatter, questions explanations, etc. I don't like the idea of limiting the auctions. But it might be advantageous to take the auctions out of the recent postings. I can't see any way the multiple listing auction would work except to break it down into 4 dutch auctions by breed, with the winner taking however many he wanted. The rest could be offered to the next bidder or relisted at the seller's discretion.

I think it would depend on the pricing. If the price is the same for all items, it could be a single auction. Especially if it were Buy It Now, the seller could just modify the auction as the items are taken. If they are all priced differently, then I think they would have to be separate auctions.

And I also agree with limiting the amount of auctions per member per week. Might mean policing the auctions a bit, so that you dont have people offering 1 dozen dodo eggs, and then in the body of the auction, them saying...also available giraffe, rattlesnake, finch,
porcupine and Purple Chicken eggs.

Great feedback, keep it coming!

The number of auctions will be limited by usergroup. Standard members will be able to post a certain number of auctions per month and GFMs will be able to post more.

Yes, they will appear in recent posts... at least at first. This may change in time.

Yes, all "listings" (some will be auctions, some Buy It Now, etc.) will look just like this.
