New BYC Auction System - Want To Buy A Chicken (Just A Test)

Does that mean that the test page is now closed? I sure wish I had the opportunity to test it out. Are you going to set up another test page? Only 86 bigs and most were from the same people. Would be nice if more members could get a chance on trying it out. Don't you agree? May just during the test period the bids could be limited so more can have a chance to big or extend the expiration date, for maybe a week or something.

So, how would you suggest we encourage members to setup their listings using the new system to make things work as well as possible? How many listings would that be? 1? 4? 10?

I'd say 4 listings. How else could someone bid unless the seller is sell them all or nothing. It that case it would be 1 listing

I would like to go down as vehemently opposed to auction restrictions. To force people into a formatted auction and then limiting the number they can have does not make sense. Some, nay, most members sell little to nothing on here. So most of your selling is going to be by a small percentage of regular sellers interspersed with occasional to one time sales by others, just as it is now. As a buyer, it is a disadvantage to me to be restricting the number and kinds of chickens available at any given time.

Jen, your feedback is noted and much of what you say has been discussed already. While not perfect, this system will make things much easier to use and better organized.

For clarification, would you be less opposed if (i.e., if you had to choose one of the below, which would it be):

1) We left BST in the current format but limited the number of BST posts per member
or
2) We introduce the new "formatted system" but had no limit on the number of posts?

No one's being forced into doing anything. Its a choice, rather, a privilege to be able to participate. I think you are over-estimating the effect the restrictions will have.

Well, for clarification:

1) All BST listings will need to be in this new format.
2) There will be restrictions on the number of new listings that each member can make (GFMs will be able to make more posts than standard members)

I understand that. Its still a choice to participate or not. No one is being forced to do anything. As far as her concerns to the numbers of chickens or eggs being offered, one of the good points of this auction, or the BST forum, is that if something isnt being offered that day, you can find closed sales and find who is offering what you are looking for, and contact the sellers directly.

As far as the restrictions to the number of posts, I would think its just a safety net measure to prevent spamming. I would also think very few people would even reach their max number of posts, whatever that number will be.

Well, I like the auction set up but I hate the idea that all the BST listings will have to be in that format and hate theidea that there will be restrictions on the number. But then I guess, I will see when we find out what those restrictions will be.

OK, so maybe I worded it a little strongly, but

This is not a democracy. However, when you ask me for feedback, I don't hold my punches.

Once policy is decided, I will abide by it and will not whine.

I would rather the structured format auction without limits.

Not 100% true. The staff as a group decide on almost everything and I rarely make any decisions without their buy in (and sometimes they yell at me and tell me to just make a decision). We also take all feedback into consideration and appreciate it if given in the right tone. We may not always agree, but we do listen.

That's helpful. So, my follow up to you: How many listings do you guys think you make every month on average?
