I see what was posted, but just the same could be for Plymouth rocks. You can breed a barred with white or buff and get a sexlink. That does not prove to me that they are different breeds, just varieties.

I understand they were derived from the same lines, as many of the original birds weren't for other varieties of other breeds, but they are still nonetheless, different varieits.

Yes, Dustin. Their place of origin is actually the only thing that connects them.

And, as DT showed us, they were not developed from the same breeds but from totally different breeds.

They're different breeds because of different makeups. They both come from rhode island, and both look similar. However they're recognized as completely different breeds by the APA and creators.. To say these birds are the same because they came along from the same lines (only partly) might as well say all chickens are the same because they came along the lines from junglefowl. Breeds are just crosses we people created and bred to come a certain way, then we named them...

And even if the rhode island white did come from the rhode island red, a lot of real fanciers would probably not call it a real one because of the out-cross to create the color. Just as many do not call the white sumatras "real sumatras" and believe only real sumatras are black.

PS. Little tired here, so i may not make much sense.. lol...
