Hi there! Newbie here...
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes! Totally new! Maybe a bit nuts??! Just brought home a dozen 4H chicks on Friday.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
12. Planning to keep just the hens (tho I suspect I may already be most attached to a rooster) and a few will go nextdoor to our neighbors.

(3) What breeds do you have?
1 Silkie
4 Ameracauna
2 buff Orpingtons (my fav—they are incredibly cuddly)
5 Cochins (silver laced and gold laced)

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
The google. And other friends.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
My family (3 kids), knitting, dogs, gardening

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I’m a stay-at-home mom to my three kids under 7 and we currently have an old-man-dachshund and these chicks. I’ve wanted chickens for a long time, so now that we have the space I jumped in!

It is great to have you here!

Roosters do not count according to chicken math...

G’Day from down under Ktvermi :frow Welcome and Congratulations! :clap

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you include your general location on your profile, this will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

BYC has a Learning Centre and also Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out. There is a section on Raising Chicks and these two might also be of particular interest to you:
Topic of the Week - Getting Started, Keeping Chickens
Topic of the Week - Keeping the Flock Safe from Predators

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Best wishes and good luck!
