New chicken mom!

Still getting used to the site so bear with me. That's my set up for the chicks. You can tell where I have the lamp shining at the corner at one end so I guess that set up is ok??

Be careful with newspaper in with them... it gets slippery and is bad for their legs

That is a very nice set up you have with plenty of feed dispensers but if you are getting any stuff in the water then you might want to put the waterier on a board to lift it up an inch or two but have enough for the chicks to stand on and if you look at the photo of my brooder you should notice a board well that is the only reason it is in there.......

You do have plenty of room for a few more chicks in your brooder but if you do not have a screen over the top yet you might want to think about making one ......

I put a small plate upside down under it to sit it on but still getting kinda dirty. Usually once a day I wash my hands then clean it out and wash them again. I have rigged up some wire over it now cause one of the Rhode Island reds sitting on the log got out yesterday. So last night I took the log out and will put back in a bit. Just hard to cover because if the way the lamp hangs and wasn't sure should put wire under the lamp because put out a good bit of heat.
 
Oh ya if you have one jumping out today you are going to have two by tomorrow jumping out so it is time to put some covering over the top something like wire so the heat can escape and the moister also ......... So wire is your best bet .......
 
I have two sections of chicken wire over the top and I cut it to where I could pull around the top of light. I put their log back in this morning. I have one piece of wire off right now so will see if those crazy little reds try to escape again today! Lol!
 
Also, my brooder is inside in my living room. It's not nasty but was wondering the best way to clean it out. Doesn't smell real bad but it is starting to get a smell other than pine shavings lol!
