(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Brand new! I just got my first 10 Rhode Island Red females yesterday.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I started with 10 but I have lost 3 already and I'm not sure why.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Rhode Island Reds
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Since I'm new, I don't know yet. I do know that losing them is heart breaking.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
II love making art. From mixed media, to watercolors, to digital art in Photoshop and ProCreate. I also, after building my first coop, have fallen in love with wood working. I grew up watching my dad build the most beautiful pieces as a kid.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have been married for 16 years and have two grown boys. One is 24 and serving in the US Navy and the other is 21 and going to college. I work in ITS as a GIS Specialist and absolutely live my field. I ended up being adopted by a rooster who I have really enjoyed over the last year even though he is pretty skittish. A friend at work convinced me to start raising chicks, not only for the eggs, but so my Rooster, Colonel Sanders (giggle!) could have some girlfriends to take care of. The soccer ball in my next door neighbors yard doesn't seem to be satisfying him, despite his best attempts. Lol!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I have landed on this forum many times since I started my quest to learn about raising chickens so now that I have my first little flock, I thought I'd go ahead and jump into the fray so I can meet fellow chicken owners and learn more about raising them well.
