good suggestion.. might have to think of something like that.. but as of now i have left the door to the fortress open for the past 3 weeks now.. just enough for the chickens to get in and out.. my rocky can reach the door but not get in.. i have not had any issues yet. i have been woke up a couple times of my dog going crazy, and barking at the chicken fortress.. i have a feeling something was out in the woods next to the fortress.. but with him able to get to the only entry way i think that will be enough to keep stuff out. even if something was to slip in. between the rooster and the dog alerting me. i have a feeling that what ever is in the fortress will not be worried about eating the chickens at that point. but how it might try and escape the mess the critter has found himself in. but i will be thinking of how to make an auto door in the future as i still am a little uneasy about leaving it open. but for the most part the chickens are free. to the leave the compound at anytime durning the day. and they do.. i am trying to get the farm self sufficient so if we leave for the weekend everything will have enough food and water to survive with out help for a few days...only problem i have now. is the chickens eat more dog food than my bulldog...lol....i have an auto feeder.. but its open at the end. so i will try the metal kind that the dog will have to open the hatch to get to the food.. but i have a feeling that they will figure out how to get his food...

i will have to get more pallets.. and make another roosting house.. i have way to many chickens for my little house.. hince the reason i let them come and go as they please.. at least all they do in there is sleep and lay eggs. i think i will just use whole pallets and screw them together to make another structure...it want be as nice as my other hen house. but got to do something. does anyone have 2 houses? and will the chickens split up when its time to sleep? or will they all still go into one house? as of now i have all kinda perch's in the house. but they seem to go all the way to the top and sleep ontop of each other.. lol... its like they all have to be with red... the roo....im like seriously...lol.... plenty of room every else in the house...lol...
Love the pallet fence. My husband was talking about a privacy fence in the back the one closest to our neighbor. I think I'll tell him he can build a pallet fence! Painted and looking through hedges could you really tell the difference?
