Hello one and all. I am new to this forum and it looks like it will be fun once I master the actual use of the tools available here.
We (Andy and I) got our 6 chicks last Wednesday at a nearby feed place down in Jay, OK.
We have 3 Rode Island Reds and 3 Barred Plymouth Rocks, all supposed to be hens.....hopefully LOL I guess you all know how that goes. Anyway we are lovin' their company and cheeps. I made a brooder out of a 30 gallon Sterilite bin and lined it with newspaper to facilitate cleaning. I then put in a healthy layer of Pine Chips without dust from Tractor supply. I used a shower rod to hang the heat lamp assembly with 250 watt bulb at 12 inches above shavings. I decided to use a dimmer switch as a control to dim and thereby adjust the temperature at chick level with a visible cheap class thermometer. It seems to be working just fine and the chicks can move around the warm spot as they feel comfortable. Now I will try to insert a few pictures. LOL Wow! that rather well. If anyone has any questions I would be glad to share. I will add some more pictures or URls of my chicken coop I intend to build. I will try to post a step by step progress report as well. So Howdy to everyone out there in BYC land!! BTW this is John L

Very cute! They are quickly going to outgrow that bin, so get prepared with new digs!

Great to have you aboard and enjoy your new babies!!

Thanks for the good wishes. Yep going off keyboard to visit Lowes and start getting things on my materials list for a cool looking coop. It is called a Chicken Tractor Stagecoach.
I will have to modify as I go as I can't get some of the crucial elements on this side of the Mississippi. LOL! TTYL

Hey Guys, Here is a picture of the Chicken Tractor I am about to make (I hope).

I sent off for the plans and materials list and I am starting to purchase some of the stuff as I find it. I will also try to take pictures and post them as the build goes on. I am not skilled the the carpentry field, but can apply the basics. LOL
