It depends on how nasty the brooder gets...
I personally would change all shavings almost daily...sometimes every two days.

If you do a deep litter system, it is not necessary to change the shavings daily. simply top them off. However, if you are brooding in your living room, or some such place, you might want to change them daily. IMO, brooding chicks do not belong in living space. Too hard on the lungs, and too much cleaning, but every one has their own style.

Great...have you thought about putting a stick from the yard....broken tree limb...in the cage so they can roost?

Ok, that sounds cool, I've never thought of that.

I brood in a cage similar to yours.
I would get a stick longer than the cage and shove it in between the "wires" where it would stick out on both sides of the cage, so they couldn't accidentally knock it down.

They will love it!
