My Coop
My Coop
Hello all, I have a 13 'x 5 ' coop right now for 13 hens,I plan on building a new coop 12 ' x 16 ' I want to get 20 more chicks . My new coop will have two sections in it, one part for the arrival of new chicks, and the other side for the older hens, I sorta gave an idea I'd how I want the inside layout to be, but I would like to see pictures of the inside of your coop large enough to accommodate 30+hems, and any ideas you have to help me in my build
Thanks
Jack
This is the inside of my existing coop we have now, I like having the poop board under the roost ,and want to do the same in the new coop.

I built in a separate people door for the chick area, which is created with a temporary mesh and wood wall with tiny doors for early integration. Chick area also has a separate pop door and run. I take down wall for more space most the year.
Pics can be seen here:

My coop is only 6x16 so wouldn't keep 30 birds over winter, but coop build is here:

Draw it all out to scale before building, will save headaches and excessive 'field design' once you start to cut wood.

I started drawing it out on graph paper, when I started my plans were 12'x12'
But that has already changed to 12'x16' . I currently have 13 hens , I would like to get 20 chicks, to give me 33, I have to remember that they will pretty much be in the coop during winter, I also thought about keeping the existing coop I have for raising young chicks untill I can move them over with the older hens,
Here is the coop setup and it would work great for chicks , the older ones wont be able to get to them.

Another picture of my existing coop, it is inside of a 50'x25' run, and the chickens have the opportunity to free range out in the pastures with the gosts and pony's

I think I decided to keep the existing coop for chicks, and build a 12x16 for the old hens, that way I can have the see but dont touch until I'm ready to move them into 1 flock , in the 12x16 coop. The old coop will become my broader with attached run.

A brooder with attached run is perfect. We have that and it works beautifully.

I was going to make the new coop with two sections, one side for the older ladies, and the other section for little chicks , see but dont touch, so since I have this coop now, instead of tearing it down It will become a brooder

Will new coop and old coop be right next to each other?
I'd encourage you to still section off part of the new coop,
that will work much better for integration than separate coops.
Can still use old coop for isolation if needed.

The two coops would not be next to each other, you have a good point there. I been tossing it around to have the two sides in one coop, and two separate pop doors, and the run that is attached to the old coop now, moved over to the chicks side and they can get outside and the hens still will not be able to get to them
