I live in north Germany, normally we have mild winters but last winter it got down to minus 15 Celsuis. Maybe in Alaska you should use a bit more insulation than I have.

I don't know what has better insulation properties, fibreglass or foam, but what is important is that the insulation is sealed tight. Mice will get at it to build nests, wasps will use even the tiniest hole to make a nest. I have also heard of the chickens themselves getting at styro foam and eating it.

Best of luck with your project.

We actually designed the coop for 4 - 5 chickens, but being a noob I thought I would only practise on 2 for starters

Once I get into the flow of looking after them I may get more.

The run is from ground to wire mesh at the top 120 cm (47 inches) Height. The mesh came on a 25 meter roll and is 102 cm wide.
The top is removable and only fixed with plastic ties.

There is also a gate to allow me access to the run. At the moment it jams ( new wood tends to expand/shrink depending on the weather). I'll sort that out this weekend.

great inspiration! thanks for sharing your photos, i kinda have to see it to get it ..
