New Dog - Skelepup stray

I'm so glad you decided to let him stay! He is one CUTE little guy, and he looks like such a good boy!

His smile is just adorable.

Darn, I can't think of any names at the moment, but I'll post again if I think of one later!

Holy cow! Jack is a great name. As you can prolly tell from my avaar I play World of Warcraft and ironically, my hunters pet worgen(wolf) is named... Jack. :O Of all names to outright suggest.

Hope it works for you

I thought of that cuz you said he was skele-pup

patterdales are a VERY rare breed in the US and that being part of his mix is EXTREMELY unlikely.

What gets me is though whatever he is mixed with has large erect ears - he usually holds them up but they are still slightly too heavy so tend to flop at the very tips and most breeds I can think of have completely limp ears.

I've seen numerous pitts and pitt mixes with ears just like his. His ears and head shape say pitt very strongly to me (I hope you have nothing against them...as they are FABULOUS dogs)....I don't see anything else strongly represented in him....doesn't look min pin or anything like that to me at all. Pitts can be black and tan too...though its an uncommon color.

jack russels and parson russels are technically the same thing.....the "correct" name used to be parson jack russel terrier, but when they were accepted by the AKC they dropped the "jack" part and just call them parson russel terriers now. I definitely don't see any of this breed in him at all though.

Can you get a pic of him from the side?....

I still don't know I'm not fond of pitts because of their thick heavy chesty builds and thick necks which he certainly lacks and their ears are much smaller and still fold in half. His really do only fold at the very tip and he always holds them as perk as he does in the piccys only lowering them if he's asleep(they weren't clipped at all to be able to stand like that). There's a possibility hes a mix as most mix pitts I've seen completely lose the thick neck and huge chest.

But the closest I can find in images of pitt pups to replicate his ears is

and the ears are still way too thin and flop too much. His ears are thicker like a GSD's which is why I even thought GSD. But head is too narrow to be a pitts? His head isn't really round and his muzzle has more definition. But that could be the underfed showing through since I've been told he has "a skinny face for a puppy".

He does seem to have the odd eyes though...

He's definitely not a pure pitt....but "real" pits are not particularly thick chesty dogs...most pit mixes are actually very lean dogs and many have long/longish faces. Pit's are "supposed" to naturally have ears that are erect at the base and fold over about halfway up...however many with natural ears have ears that are fully erect (http://i43.tinypic.com/1z2q9i0.jpg) or like your pups ears where they are mostly erect and just fold at the tips (http://www.pitbull-chat.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=9599). With the age he's at...his ears may very well end up fully erect...hard to say at 5 months

Hope you enjoy your pup as much as we love ours. If you want I can get more pictures of him in different spots like his legs feet back tummy if it will help and I like the name Jack. I had a dog named bear also a long haired German Shepard rottie mix loved that dog Ex-hubby got rid of him because the dog hated him wonder why.

I see alot of similarities between the two dogs (and I'm not talking about the color). When I first saw the dog I thought beagle mix. It doesn't have a pit face at all (not that there is anything wrong with pitts). The face is alot beagle- all soft edges and roundish. The ears aren't right but they are closer to beagle than pitt (size wise) ears actually look kinda like GSD puppy ears and they commonly do that tip bend at that age. You will probably never know what he's made up of. He is a gorgeous puppy and I wish you the best with him.

Actually, if you read the thread and look at his age and size you can guess rather accurately what mix he is. He is a terrier mix of some sort with probably some Miniature Pinscher...beagle could be in there somewhere but not 'up close' in his genetics. He will be a small dog, not Pitty or GSD size. I guessed he'll top out around the 25 pound mark.

I'm still sticking with some sort of pitt mix....and I still see no beagle to him at all. I'd really like to see a couple profile photos.
