New duckling! Help?

Pics
Aww...they're the same size. :love

P.S. I know you already picked out a name but if you ever need another one...
Daisy, Marshmallow, Daffy, Cloud, Sugar, Snowball, Snow white, Sir Quacks-a-lot, Ms. Quackers, Alice, Emma,Duddles, Emily, Uncle Wesley, Blackerberry, Blossom, Diamond, Myra, Gretta, Pancake, Waffles, Acea Spades, Henry Waddlesworth Longfellow, etc. are good duck names. ;)

By the way, I read somewhere the other day that make ducks don’t actually quack and I had never actually realized that until now! So aside from be possible drake feather that may grow... if Sunni starts making quacking noises does that confirm her to be a girl? Or is the drake feather the best way to tell? We can’t sex them because we are not sure how and I don’t want to hurt it.

We have a pair of Pekins and it took a little while till we could tell the difference. Few months probably. Every thing I read would say that the male had a lower quack. they both sounded exactly the same to us. One day the male lost its voice completely for about a week or so. Then after that the male quack came in. Very low compared to our female. She can wake the whole neighborhood if she tries. Not long after the lower quack started did the drake feather come in.

Its probably too late now to try and sex it. It looks to be about a couple weeks old now. Judging from the ones I have. I think you are supposed to do that within the first couple days of life.

Yep! If it does the typical duck quack it's a female, a rasp and it's a male. If your new Pekin Is a male I would be worried how hard it would be on your mallard...
I was wondering about that myself. A Pekin will get much larger than the mallard correct?
:fl it's a girl.
And ×2 on the quaking
My boys kept their baby peeps longer than my females. But when it was gone it was gone
The Girls raise the roof with their loud quack

Also it keeps eating the woodchips we have down in the cage for it. Should we be concerned?
Such a beautiful duckie! Looks not too young, maybe straw would be better. I think the wood chips might not be too good if duckie is eating them.
I'm sure the little duck will calm down with some other avian companions. And once routine is established, they really seem to like that.

@ViolinPlayer123 @shawluvsbirds Yah we'd have to keep an eye on them if Sunni ends up being a boy but when Mochi was still around she'd mount Billy and she was pretty much the same size as a Pekin. I also never saw them really do it outside of the bathtub/water so I think everything will work out... as for the quacking, Sunni has the most high pitched peep I have ever heard lol. Billy was like that when she was little so maybe.. just maybe we'll get lucky and Sunni will be a girl

Here’s a size comparison of Billy and Mochi. Mochi was about twice her size
