New England - Metal roof or no?

I bought a metal cutting blade for my circular saw and was glad that I did. It cut my metal roofing clean. Why ruin a good plywood blade?

I posted it was a good idea and I would probably do that before someone else posted it would ruin the blade for anything else, so I didn’t know. Now that I do, I’d probably just get a metal blade.

Price.
Lenox 7 1/4" metal cutting blade - $50.45

7 1/4" plywood blade
- $6.47

I did find one for as low as $3.25 before shipping.

While the plywood blade may not be any good for cutting wood after using it backwards to cut thin metal, it will still be good for cutting thin metal.

We have a metal shop in our area. When we ordered the metal for the roofs, we had them cut it to length for the different roofs. When we got the metal home we left the metal strapped together which kept it nice and even and measured and drilled the holes for the screws to screw the metal onto the purlins. Worked out great and our roofs are slanted not a gable roof. When we replaced the wood on some of the coops with metal, we did cut the metal with a circular saw with a metal cutting blade. It worked great.

We have a metal roof and it works great for snow sliding off it. For better ventilation, I don't recommend putting it over a piece of plywood. We have a different style of roof but hopefully you can get the idea. Underneath the metal on the inside is bubble reflective foil which reduces heat and still leaves plenty of ventilation up through the roof. Plywood might block that ventilation.

Hi All-

Hoping everyone can help us prevent a mistake before we make it. We are building the following coop, pretty much to a T, with a few changes here or there.

We're getting to the point where we'll be picking up roofing material soon. We are debating on doing a metal roof (good for keeping SNOW in motion and on the ground), or shingles. We are planning on putting plywood over the frame of the roof, and then something on top of that. Is metal a good idea, or bad? Do we need insulation under it, or is the plywood enough? We will have the venting along the roof that is included in the plans, as well as vents cut into the side walls near the top, so we are hoping that will prevent condensation during the cold months. Thoughts? I would hate to buy materials for a roof only to find out we did it wrong.
I live in Raleigh, NC and use metal roofing; I don't think you can make a mistake as long as you have plenty of ventilation and the metal will outlast you and your chickens!
