New Fabrics Today! Pics ~Hand Quilting Complete!! New Pics! ~

I prefer the first grouping, but that is because I see the purples and greens going different directions. In the second photo the colors have specific diagonals. I think I would definitely first grouping for a large quilt of the same blocks. With a border, I dont think it matters so much.

JMHO

I love the colors with the white personally.

I think I personally am liking the diagonals all being continuous, i.e., that you can follow the purple up and down in a zigzag and the green diagonal the same way. I'm going to ask its future owner. If he hates the white, I'll start over and use those blocks for a lap or baby quilt or something. I ran to the flea market quilt shop and thank goodness, she had plenty of bright white tone-on-tone fabrics.

I also like the secondary pattern that the first example makes. It is better seen in the photo of the medallian and the blocks as you laid them out on your bed.
The white in the block border will appear less of a contrast by what you use in the next border. I would suggest utilizing the same colors as you have in the medallian. That allows the white to give your eye a little rest as the eye moves from the center. It also allows the eye to notice the secndary pattern found in the placement of the blocks.

It's going to be a beautiful quilt!!

Thanks loads for your input, Kat! I'm working on the rest of the blocks and will post when I get them arranged around the medallion. Then, need to work on the next border--that one will have more of the medallion colors as was suggested. See, you guys are great with the suggestions! Even when I don't follow them exactly, they get me to thinking in new directions.

Almost done piecing this border. I have one more block to go, but wanted to post it so you can get the full effect. If the person who commissioned this one doesn't like this border, guess I'll either make another quilt with them or sell a set of blocks for someone to make their own. The dark blue on the edge is the color I'm considering for the next border. One of the deep golds seems almost orange in my dark house, but it's really not.

I have a little wheeled gadget that holds powdered chalk, that I sometimes use on dark fabrics. I think it might rub off, if you marked all of a quilt at once, instead of marking as you go. I especially like it when I'm marking dark fur, for teddie bears.

Edited to add that I was just Googling for a site with a picture of what I have and I found out that Clover makes a white marking pen that washes out! Hey, I'm going to get one of those!

I was going to buy a white marking water soluble marker at the quilt shop and the owner said she didn't like it at all. Showed me her preferred marker, a rolling chalk marker that is refillable and seems to work really well. It's by Clover..is it this one?
