New Hampshire - LIVE FREE or DIE

I think we should concentrate mainly on getting the 12 chick limit lowered for private type selling before tackling anything further, if we try to change too much all at once we are going to run our selves into something no one wants.
keep in mind NAIS and the fight we have waged to keep it off the books, right now its basically voluntary we dont want it to get picked back up and mandatory

OMG your stressing me out!!
do the right thing, dont do the right thing, it is so much work.
i decided this year to vaccinate my chicks that i buy from the hatchery. and i have been keeping them separate from my hatched chicks, i figure in 2 weeks or so i can mix the flock. i hope
maybe i should rethink this? rethink the vacc, rethink the mixing of the chicks in a few weeks

lol, sorry, thas what i went through and found it was becouse i added vac chicks to the non vac chicks .
your good becouse you are keeping them seperated for the 2 weeks.
oh and let others know when they get chicks that are vac. and tio keep sperated until teh chicks are 2 weeks of age.

i had heard a few more than usual stories of chickens with leg issues and was worried that what maybe it is making a come back and i thought whats .17cents or whatever

Actually, from what I've learned Marek's vaccs are not recommended for small back yard flocks, because of the side affects from the Vacc. and as Cindy said for a back yard flock it isn't cost effective.

That why i don't give the vac to mine, they eat med chick starter for that, if you put an unvac chick with a vac chick, well i went threw that and that's when i dug deeper into it, the vac is actually and virus so the unvac chick can get sick, and the vac chicks there immune system is way weaker than normal for about 2 weeks .

Medicated chick starter is only for Coccidiosis, not mereks.
Edit to add,
I have found non medicated game crumbles actually get the off to a better start than medicated chick starter.

oh yea your right. haha my bad, but i know that if you get the vacs for the cocci you can not give them teh med chick starter. so i dont vacs for either one, i seem to have better healther chicks that way.

I remeber you telling me that, so i took your advice the ones the chicks that i have that are over a month i am mixing in teh game crumbles with there med chick starter, and i notice they are gaining a little bit more weight to them, which is good.

Medicated starter is just for coccidiosis, it won't prevent any other diseases/illnesses.

Working on the 12 chick rule is great to start. But I know for out of State people that show, the health certificates are going to be a big issue and we for one can not afford that at all and would not be able to show in NH.

From the context of the post, I think Certified Veterinary Inspection was what was intended, not mareks vaccination. I think that is what would have been stated if that were the case. Mareks is only given to day-old chicks; it is largely inefffective if given after the bird has been exposed to older birds. Transmission is via dander, so eposure is VERY easy.
