I can tell you first hand what happens if you do not have insurance in NH and its not your fault, first one who gets to the phone and sues is fine, the other loses the license for 2 years then has to carry an SR22 for 3 years.
i was rear ended out into traffic, then a woman T boned me then sued for her un seat belted(mandatory under 18 in NH) kids broken ankle.
I lost my license for 2 years and had to carry an SR22 for 3 years to show financial responsibility.
so yea even though not mandatory in NH you may as well have it anyway cause if not they screw you royal.

WOW, Yea i think i would still have it, but yep it would be way cheaper than here.

Oh ok, the guy got back to me about that house on Townsend, he understood the confusion, but he talked it over with hi brother, and they came to an agreement on, whom ever moves in they need to have on hand security and first months, then what ever needs to be done in yard or house would be deducted from next rent.
but he said it wont be available until oct. So in the mean time that we are looking, we will keep our roos as quiet as possible till we can find a place, i think we may end up renting a barn from a lady in princeton,ma.
she is also evicting people from her place, so that would also give us time to build up the money.

my daughter was in 2 accidents without insurance, both her fault, no injuries.
what happened to her is she has a payment plan with the insurance co and if she misses payments they take her license.
1st accident didnt realize the car wasnt insured, a complicated family transaction. the 2nd was up at the top of the street where there is an accident a day, or atleast 4 out of 7 days anyway. you think they would do something to make it safer.
edited to add, she has insurance now!! dont think she would go without it, sometimes they take a while to figure things out!!

My insurance agent explained to me that the NH law reads that you don't have to have insurance IF you can pay for any damages/injuries,etc you cause in an accident. So basically, if you have lots of money and can pay yourself, you don't need to carry insurance. Of course the majority of people can't afford to pay for damages and especially injuries, so they really ought to carry insurance. If they don't have the insurance, 1) they can be held liable, and 2) usually will be required to carry insurance in future or risk losing their license.
We have a bank loan on our van, so the bank requires us to carry full insurance. Last year when i was 7 months pregnant with my daughter, i was getting my then 2 yr old son out of my PARKED van when a guy in a dumptruck backed into my van!! Shattered my back window, spraying glass everywhere inside. I got bruises from the van rocking back and forth and bumping into me from the inpact. I was also so scared and stressed out that i went into labor!!
The man did NOT have insurance on his truck either. My insurance paid for the van repair, paid for me to go to the hospital and be treated for preterm labor (thank God my daughter was NOT born too early, i've already had several preemie babies), and then they gave me a cash settlement becasue i was pregnant! Then they went after the uninsured owner of the dumptruck. They said he was cooperating and paying them back bit by bit.
We have an older model pickup truck which we somehow had not gotten on our policy, so after this we went and got liabilty on it. We don't want to find ourselves in the position of the guy who hit my van. That accident was a minor one and cost several thousand. I wouldn't want to be in a major accident where someone was seriously hurt or killed and be held liable becasue my truck was not insured!!
My opinion is that carrying car insurance is the SMART thing to do.
