New Hampshire x Penciled Rock?

Just wondering if anyone has ever tried a New Hampshire x Penciled Rock cross. Should be a good layer, no different really than a black star, but would they be all black? I have both these breeds, and could do the cross either way if it matters.

Which would be the rooster and which would be the hen?

They wouldn’t be black.
To get sexlinks, breed the NH over the Rock.
You will get red columbian pullets with pencilling and kind of silver/gold heterozygous red columbian cockerels with pencilling.
The female chicks will look like this

male chicks will look like this

Not really enough difference for you to tell at hatch. But that is how it is.

I have roosters and hens of both breeds ... could do it either way. I have done the NH rooster over barred rock and got the black hen with gold chest (black star).
