I have been taking care of chickens and other farm animals for food, and raising them since a little one, with my parents, then till around my 30's or so. Just getting back into it all and starting with chickens

How we used to raise them and now is very different though. I am learning a lot of new things and appreciate everyone's help and advice!!!

Hi, haven't heard from you lately so I'm giving you a shout to see how your coop is coming along and to see if your order came in yet!

My Grandfather located up here years ago, my parents followed. Then my son and daughter in law (she teaches in Littleton) So once we decided to down size, it only made sense to relocate up here near family. My parents had a small collection of hens when I was in high school, being a senior the last thing I was interested in was chickens. Now that I am older, and quite frankly 'had it' with the treatment of 'commercial' animals and the GMO foods that pollute our supermarket and bodies, I decided that I will do as much as I am able to grow/ raise as much of our food as possible. I will know that the animals are humanely treated and that the veggies and fruits are as much as possible not tampered with as possible. Genetically modified crops make it hard though, it is near impossible to find chicken feed that is GMO free. Another whole rant there. So basically yes I am new at raising chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese. Learning a whole lot. If you want inspiration to raise your own animals watch "Food Inc." Does anyone in NH have a metal corrugated roof on their coop that didn't use plywood? I'm thinking of that for a coop and not using plywood so I can use the corrugation as additional ventilation. But I've heard that this type of roof in cold climates can "sweat" under the roof. Has anyone experienced this? And what did you do about it?

Hi, still here, not much progress, still waiting on the chicks to arrive, memorial day messed up their schedule, they ship on Mondays, no coop yet...really think I'm going to just wire the heck out of the horse stall. It'll be MUCH safer for them. plus the only place to put a coop here is in back of the cottage and I am right next to the stables and can see them better...plus will save on lumber, ect...no horses, or anything for that matter ever ended up using those stalls, so they are clean, and in a really well built stable and 9 feet by 12 feet and there are two stalls...I can build a coop out of hardware cloth inside either or both...my manager won't like it LOL, but the owner loves the idea te he he...I can't wait for the chicks to get here...It's hard to wait for so long....thought it would be much quicker, forgot about memorial day...don't have tv service up here, just the owners internet connection but that's for free

If I put hardware cloth on the floor and wire it into the sides, ect, like stictch it...that should be ok, aye? The floor is sand, so I can bury the wire easy enough, and, since I'm a bit long in the tooth, I'm going to do the deep layer bedding also

do I need more than regular chicken wire for the top of their outside run? There is a wooden post fence there that I can attach the hardware cloth too, but the ground is too rocky...BIG rocks..to dig down...not sure what to do there...any suggestions? Remember, I'm on a tight budget

I really wanted to do a separate coop, but the manager isn't back with the truck yet...sigh...so all the wood I found at different stores, ect, keeps going bye bye and it really won't fit in my car! Littleton has a tractor store, for those big tractors and has big pieces of free for the taking wood from crates and lots of pallets too...darn shame to miss all that!
