I have 10 New Hampshire hens and a roo, six Jersey black (straight run 3 hens , 3 roos) , 10 hens and a roo that They are either Plymouth Rock, BRs or Dominiques, IDK how to tell them apart at this point. They were part of a 'breeders pick special' so I am not sure . They all had white spots on their heads and a white butt otherwise all black. Also10 assorted rare, again part of a breeders pick surprise pack so I am still guessing, a pair of ducks and a pair of geese... again part of a surprise breeders pick and not yet feathered, so I am not sure. LOL It has been fun guessing. I think the ducks are 'Runners' because they sure don't waddle and are hard to catch. I am a beginner as well. This is a new farm experience. Lesson One, build the coop before getting the chicks, LOL I am trying hard to complete the coop as fast as the chicks have been growing. I am in Dalton north and next to Littleton. Almost forgot and 2 turkeys (OMG are they the dumbest birds I have ever dealt with)

and im fairly sure I have 2 guys, 1 acts like a girl. my tablet doesn't start a sentence in caps. I got it for mother, s day a 10 inch wow! but I can't put those smiles yseither a down side oh well.
so I am working on a new coop. It is set on 4 inches of rock it will have hardware cloth around the base and buried a bit. I also plan on a foot or two of fencing underground around the coop. The lady with chickens down the road warns that the ferrets and weasels are also a concern around here. She had a bear break into her coop a couple of years ago, he just made a mess, no lives lost.
