I have poop boards in one of my coops it does help keep the coop clean as a whole but the poop boards need to get changed often.

As for bugs I have been battling mites this year it is no fun, some of my poor chickens look so mangy. Ive been working on it.

It sucks I tell you it sucks... I clean out my coop at least once a week... toss in tons of poultry dust to the point I nearly lost two of my best roosters.... I have applied the exprinex to the necks... I have powdered the birds up till they looked like white clouds...I have sprayed the walls and perches with adams mist, < they laughed at that stuff..... The best thing I have found so far is DeFlea dog shampoo. It is DEand soap... The soap cuts the oil on the backs of the bugs while the DE slices them up... It does work. I need to order more from Pet Edge. I buy it by the gallon it is concentrated soo 1 part soap to 3 parts water.. My biggest mistake was leaving the cedar shake shingles on the interior wall when we added the new addition.. I found the bugs hiding behind them... sooo I have begun the task of ripping them out. Once done... I will move the chickens out and set off 3 bug bombs..... this WAR I tell you WAR !

You got this!!

I have shavings in my summer coop, but in our winter coop I had DD lay 2x3's every 2 ft. and then laided down 1' hardwear cloth and in the moring's I have a childrens rake and the ones that have not fallen thru I rake them down and once a week I pull out the shelfs that he laided tin down on and I dump it in our compost pile. It's great in the winter and the poop slides right off and the wet ones that have left a mess on it, I use a hose and that rake and I clean it out. I sprinkle DE and put it back into it's slot. It's really great where they perch as I would of had a ton to clean out now I only have some. I had to buy hay one time for their nest and the girls would kick some out and that made a mess on the floor w/ the girls stepping in it and locking into the heyl'
It's pine shavings for me

I sprinkle a little DE into my pine shavings each time I change out my coop litter. I've found it great in cutting back on the little buggies. I've been lucky so far not to have any issues with them.... (knock on wood).... but this year has been a great learning experience all the same.
Beautiful day out there.

Do you think you could post a picture of that if you have one? I am having trouble visualizing this setup.
