New Hatches Due May 6th, 12th, 17th. Anyone else?

I candled last night and out of the 40 eggs I set only 4 were duds. All the rest looked good so far. This was day 8 for me.It was my first time to ever candle an egg and it was kind of neat. Can't wait to do it again to see how they are progressing.

Wow, that is great! You are going to have a bunch of lil chicks! It is neat candling and seeing the lil chick swimming around. I usually stand there until I do see it move!

yesterday and the day before out humidity jumped around a bit, it was down to 21% when I came into school yesterday morning, it had been at 51% when I left school the night before.

Yikes... I am little worried.
I adjusted the water in the reservoir a bit and it has been a steady 40%-42% since then..
Do you all think they are okay?? Gosh I really hope we have some little chicks hatch. My 2nd graders would be devastated..
Thanks

Conditions under an old hen fluctuate according to the weather. Would not worry to much about it. Just check the bator each morning and evening before you leave. Would also set the room temp to a constant. If it happens again, you might consider a small Walmart room humidifier. Being a classroom, the humidity in the room may be dropping at night. I would say the issue is not with your bator, but with its enviroment...the room. Have you checked your room temp/humidity?

I've been doing good till today my humidity was 30% and the temp. was 98.7 - 100.3. Why was it stopping and starting at such a range? I added very warm oxine water in the tube and it went back to 99.7 - 99.3. The humidity went to 48% and that's OK. I didn't know that if the humidity was low it would make the temp. do that.

How I can go to bed. Tomorrow is day 10 and I'm going to candle.

Has anyone learned any thing about hatching in the past few days?

We are using a Genesis 1588 w/turner. So temp is not an issue. have to add water about every two days to keep humidity. Any ideas on an automatic humidifier for us? The tube is a good idea, but would like something in a bottle.......

This is my second hatch. But I read a lot . I have a humidifier in the room at lockdown and sponges in the incubator. I have tubes that run into the trays. I got my humidity gadge thing at the pet store $7 and a Spot Check on line.

Just added to this one because I was the last one to post.
Candled just now but I only candled 12 eggs because I'm scared.

Only two were duds maybe three. Took the two out and cracked them open and I was scared to fine a chick in them but nothing. The other one I left in. My blue eggs were all dark so I took a blue egg out off the refrigerator and candled it. I could see right through it. I guess that means my new rooster is doing his job. I new he was because I saw that white dot thing on the yolk. The silkies were just little things. Now I'm worried that the EE's will be so much bigger then the silkies. I wonder if they will kill them before I get them out of the incubator. I'm planing to put them in two different brooders. Next time I'm not going to mix EE's and silkies in the incubator. Any one mix hatch of silkies and EE's in the incubator?

How is everyone doing???? Last night I was peering through my lil windows with my flashlight to check temp and humidity when I swear one of the eggs moved. I stared at it for a while and nothing so I went to bed. Got up this morning and saw the same thing. I stood there watching and all the eggs were wiggling or making some sort of movement. They only did this for a few minutes and then must of all fell asleep. It was very exciting though! I am getting ants in my pants!!! I have a week to go! I have no idea how I will get any house work done. I'll be in there peering through those lil windows all day!

I do have something new to add....I have been "borrowing" an incubator from a friend for this hatch. I bought one and it's arriving today! Along with some hatching eggs today to go along with the ones I got Monday, to go along with the two batches coming next week. I am sure my friend won't mind me borrowing his incubator just a few more weeks.......lol

My husband hasn't a clue.......lol

SilkieTime, I use to do mixed hatches with Silkies years ago. I never had any problems. I did keep them all together the two few weeks but, as they grew they all got separated to by size. There were never any problems in the incubators.

Good luck!
