New Hatchlings...(Tiny Has Grown Up Now....Update)

Thanks, Amy. Been in this position a few times and my gut feeling is that she won't make it, but hey, stranger things have happened. ALL good thoughts on her behalf are much appreciated!

Hey, Yard full 'o Rocks, this may be your blue cockerel. Look at that wide load of a chick! It's the largest one in the brooder.

Here's Tiny, sleeping on her feet. Can't believe she has enough energy to even stand up, but there she is.

Thanks for the good thoughts, eveyone--She ate!

She ate some yogurt and chopped egg yolk! I was giving the mob their usual chopped hardboiled egg in a mayo jar top and decided to swipe some yogurt on the side of her beak. Previously, she refused the egg, her crumble, the slurry I made, etc. She started pecking at the egg! We held her up away from the crowd and she was loving the yogurt with egg! And it seems that she may only be partially blind, perhaps just in one eye because she was definitely seeing the egg and eating on her own. She is three days old now, so it's sink or swim time for Tiny. It's not over yet. Just pray it's not too late for her!
Tiny is about 1/3 the size of one of the largest chicks in the brooder, looks about the size of a Serama chick that age.

Oh, she does have a vision problem. I was holding up the jar lid with yogurt and egg on it and she kept pecking at it, but not quite touching it unless I piled it up some. Her depth perception seems off, which says to me that possibly one eye is blind or just not very good, but she is pecking at things a bit now.

She still isn't eating or drinking in the brooder, so not sure if what she ate today will do any good, but we've done what we can for her. The others are pulling away from her in growth so she may not thrive even if she lives past the critical period and starts to eat her crumble.

The blue chicks are adorable!

No, Jeremy, those are blue/black/splash Plymouth Rocks with some Barred Rocks and Ameraucanas in with them. The BBS Rocks are a new variety of that breed for me. I love my BRs and I love blue chickens, so the blue Rocks seemed a logical addition.

Oh my!! That is encouraging news Cyn! I've almost been dreading clicking on this thread for fear the news would be bad. I know she's a long way from being out of the woods yet....but this news is most encouraging! Most encouraging indeed! It gives my heart hope!

Come on Tiny!! You can do it sweetie! You can make it! I just know you can!!

Gosh!! Has it really been three days already? Wow! How time does fly once they're out of the incubator, huh?

Hey! Where's new pics of Little (haha) Red?!? Is she an axe handle wide yet?

Better keep an eye on that one! Something tells me you're in for a wild ride with him/her.....can we say Fern Wannabe? Might want to keep him/her in a different flock than Fern's. I got the feeling Fern could corrupt him/her in pretty short order when s/he's older!
