You know, Amy, I'm not 100% sure that her vision is the main issue or the only issue. Could be there is a disconnect between her eyes and her brain or something I'll never be able to pinpoint. On the bright side, I just accidentally caught her next to the waterer, obviously just having taken a swallow with her head raised to let it trickle down her throat. I wonder if maybe she didn't intend to dip her beak in the water, maybe she was nodding off to sleep and it dropped into the water and startled her into swallowing. Obviously, there is a reason she is so tiny, indicating that there is definitely more wrong with her than just her eyesight.

I'm glad she is still with you and making progress of a sort - you two are greathearted people, and you have my prayers for perseverance and patience.
If she is "developmentally challenged" it may just take her LONGER to learn what the others know instinctively - which to me means that with a little bit of work she can memorize what is what, and maybe she would be a good friend for Zane at a later date. . . . .I am sort of just dreaming out loud, I just hate that I haven't even been into chickens for a year and already I have a list of "lost ones" to mourn. . . Pocketpooper, Superchick, my little dwarf, Scott's little one, SC2, etc. I can imagine how you feel - and especially after your worries about Livvie and the rest.

That little one is learning how to control us! Don't think for a second that the Delawares have cornered the market in mind control techniques. That chick chirped and chirped and got louder and louder till DH removed it from the brooder and took it to the couch with him, where it promptly began singing happily. The dog, who is deathly afraid of chickens, especially crowing roosters, was sitting there, so DH put the chick on Kes's back. Kes turned to look back at the chick, then just laid her head back down and ignored it. Could not believe that! Snapped a pic of her:

OK, I know this is completely off topic, but ya gotta explain that sudden change of avatar! For as long as I've been here, it's always been a picture of you holding Dutch (or was that Zane??) or was it...dang it **snaps fingers trying to recall the big boy's name**

Glad to hear that Tiny is still fighting the good fight. A few more happy accidents like the water dish and maybe she just might get the hang of this on her own.

I think one of the things slowing Tiny down is that she doesn't see what the other chicks are doing, so doesn't mimic them. Maybe she just had a rougher journey hatching than the others.

We had a cocker pup that had pneumonia so badly from aspirating formula from an eye dropper that we took him to the vet to euthanize. Unbeknown to us he kept him and treated him. Right before Thanksgiving we got a call that he wanted to show us something. When he brought out this little bit of a pup, we just started bawling. I had hoped he would do such a thing and couldn't believe it was true.

Well he was way smaller than a regular pup but, fiesty and rambunctious. He matured on the small side but ended up winning his championship. I was just so grateful that he pulled through that would have been enough. So don't sell Tiny short. If she is singing she is feeling good . Maybe her needs are alot less than the other chicks.

Nancy, what a nice story! How great the vet did that for the pup!
Amy, I was holding Zane in the last avatar and before that, it was Suede. This handsome dude is my Delaware rooster, Isaac. He's such a love, that boy. I'm blessed with sweet roosters. Dutch is a bit more, let's say, hard to figure, so he doesn't get to be my avatar.

Bad Dutch! Bad! Bad! Bad Dutch! He needs to be punished! You should send him to Washington State where he can discover what a truly harsh winter can be like!!

And where he won't have all those fine ladies that he takes for granted today!!

I'll put him with FussyButt! That'll teach him a lesson real good!!
