I know that if we had not spent so much time trying with her, she'd already have starved. She is not cheeping desperately now, maybe she was colder than the others being small and her metabolism not having geared up from low food intake. Anyway, she seems fine now and I'm sure will be another super spoiled pet like my older black Ameraucana hen, Gypsy.
Here is Tiny having her beak cleaned by the BLRW/Ameraucana baby. She is doing great, no wild chirping now that she isn't hungry or cold anymore. Just put in another couple of pics-in the second one, that's Tiny on the left of the feeder.
Hey Cyn. I just found this thread. So glad to hear your Tiny is doing better. I have the SAME thing going on here. Mine are Welsummers. They are 5 days old...and one will not eat in the brooder. I am almost positive she is blind...so I make a slurry, and feed her several times a day. She doesnt react to movement by her face, and cries...well....ALOT unless I am holding her tightly in my hands.
Here is a pic of Ann, and her sibling, hatched the same day.
I am still hopefull...my little one makes it, but am not thinking she will. She just wont grow! As you can see, she is getting her wing feathers...but not getting any bigger, and the sight thing is really bothering me. I cant bring myself to cull her.
Hi, Deb! I have had that happen with one Welsummer chick, too, but it didn't cry, just kept getting weaker and weaker. It was from a shipped egg, as well. Not much you can do with some of them, I'm afraid. Hope yours makes it.
Well, I lost one. Wasn't Tiny. Heard someone chirping loudly, found it all splayed out on the brooder floor with a broken neck. At first hoped maybe it was just traumatized by someone jumping on it, but it soon was gasping then convulsing and died. The roughnecks in the brooder must have jumped on him just right. It was a black Ameraucana, a huge one, so probably a cockerel. Poor baby. Freak accidents just happen, but I hate it. Sounds like what happened to Beth's Superchick at a later age.
