I know I am REALLY late to join this! But, I used to live where your g/f wants to live! My sister lives in Swarthmore! We used to live in Clifton Heights! It's not bad, I really miss the 4th of July there!! It's the only time I really miss Clifton! Clifton, Alden are all reasonable and the crime rates (3 years ago) weren't bad at all.....
We moved out here to Chester County and our chickens have neighbor chickens on both sides!! It can be really expensive out here but right now is a good time to buy - lots of McMansions in foreclosure WINK WINK! Actually, there are some reasonable twins and townhouses around.
Look me up! Does your G/F teach at Swarthmore Rutledge??
My gf teaches at wallingford swarthmore middle school. We are 60% done clearing out my house another week or two and we'll be outta here, then I need to do alot of repairs and updating before putting it on the market. so close but feels like we'll never be gone.
Chester county is one area we are considering.
That's great, both of my nieces went there! The whole house selling thing is a pain! We're in Landenberg now, but we would not have been able to afford it if my hubby hadn't inherited the land..... But, there are some nice places here that are reasonable.
Why aren't you moving into the Swarthmore area? Just too pricey? It took my sister two years to get a house in Swarthmore. We had a great agent there. Her name was Inger Fay. She sold our house in three weeks after it had sat on the market for six months with another agent. She was also good about pinpointing what needed to be fixed rather than what I just thought I should fix.
(No, I don't get a commission - I haven't spoken to her in two years, but I was impressed by her.)
Look at Somerset Lakes, they've got some reasonable houses. What about over the border in DE? Does school district matter for your future progeny?....
We're not moving to swarthmore because for some unknown reason I'm anti del-county. also we want land. recently we discovered a number of properties in pottstown/pottsgrove that would get us 1-2 acres for around 200k some are surrounded by "no development" land.

My cousin is trying to sell his house in florida, asking $200k he paid over $400k a year ago for it! and nobody is even looking at it!
Hey dirtybug, I don't know how I missed your comment. But, Where is this house? Asking half of what he paid sounds a bit extreme. Is he selling fsob?
I'm not sure what fsob is, but he bought his house (ft meyers ??) at the height of the housing boom. the market has since crashed down there, add to that a huricane or two and nobody is buying or willing to pay top dollar. The city also decided to put in public water and sewer at a cost of around $20k per household. Its a beutiful house with a screened in pool room, big yard, newly renovated.
Hello all,
I live in Philly (Brewerytown/Art Museum area) and i'm thinking about putting a few hens in the old brick outhouse in my (small) backyard.
I'm not concerned about the laws prohibiting chickens in the City, but I am inexperienced at raising healthy chickens and all that.
Is there anyone else within City limits that is keeping Chickens?
Chester County is were to go. I grew up in Springfield Montgomery Co. 15 minutes outside the city. Had family in Roxborough. I now live in Downingtown, PA. Awesome location. West Chester is a great place and we live 10 minutes from there
Hi dirtybug. I just moved from Perkasie about a year ago and yes it was getting very expensive to live there. Doylestown and Fountainville were very nice areas to but I dont know if there are restrictions on chickens. I really miss Roman Delight and thier fried calamari and garlic rolls...Now I'm homesick...and hungry.
