Hey all!
I'm Tiffany and am new to the group (as well as a lot of things lately).
I'm a single mom and just bought a place with 2 acres for me and my children. We're starting a little homestead here and it's moving much faster than I had planned, but I love it!
I figured I'd wait until spring to start adding animals, but due to winter prices I couldn't resist! I got great deals on all of our animals, or they were free due to space and the cold. We currently have 2 American Guinea Hogs we plan to breed in the spring. We have 2 toggenberg/nigerian dwarf does, and a nigerian dwarf buck. And we also have 3 khaki campbell ducks (all of which ended up drakes unfortunately).
Needless to say chickens are a natural next step! I've never had chickens, but we currently have some eggs incubating (I don't think we're going to have luck with them because they're late *sigh*). We are interested in dual purpose breeds and have decided on buff orpingtons as a definite breed for us. We are still looking into different breeds and are considering Jersey Giants as another options, plus, some Americauna for the pretty eggs.
We plan on adding turkey, muscovies, more khaki campbells, quail, and rabbits to our little homestead in the spring in addition to chickens. This all takes up a ton of time, but I'm so excited for it and it's what I've always wanted.
In addition we have 4 dogs (an American pitbull terrier, a Carolina dog mix, and 2 cane corso mixes), my daughter has guinea pigs, and pet rats. In my spare time I'm fixing up our house, painting, or training and competing in obedience, agility, and barn hunt with our dogs. I also love to garden.
