New Horse Owner, Any tips would be welcome!

mY .02 cents here because there is little more that I can add.... Purple and red fade in the sun... Pack em up when you arent using them...

And its a very good idea to put your name on your brushes and buckets if you are going to board anywhere... Just so you can ID whats yours if need be.

Gosh I remember being so excited when I got my first horse in 1967. Dad picked him out he was raised around horses so he knew what to look for.... Unfortunately we were new in town and the beautiful black horse he bought me (that looked like Fury) had a rep...for being an outlaw.... The stable owner shuddered when they unloaded him off the truck... Long story but I went through Three horses in three years learning to ride and having to move on for various reasons.

There is also another option which is to lease a horse at a boarding stable long enough to learn to ride and get some confidence. I dont know how old you are but when I started out I was twelve... Not only did I out grow the horses skill wise but I out grew them size wise...

Another thing that is new since I first rode back then is Safety gear... if no one has mentioned it a Hard hat is a must even if you are riding western.... They make some pretty cool looking ones too you can even buy covers that match your gear.

Wow! Great idea, I do plan to put my name on my tack and brushes, halters, buckets, etc. If we end up getting one of the horses at the stable, that would be good, because I will already have known the horse since I will volunteer there. Yes, I was just looking at helmets.

I want to make my own rope halters as well. I have found a very informative video by peacedonkeys on youtube. Does anyone know what kind of rope I should use? I have heard to use polypropylene, nylon, and yacht rope. I am trying to find rope that isn't ugly though! lol.
