New Infraction / Warning System - Points for rule violations

I have seen the mods on this site act in a very fair manner and be open to the person being locked/warned debating the decision (with the mods in a private manner), so I think this system will work very well for this site. It not only helps maintain the already friendly and well moderated atmosphere, but now goes a step further in preventing repeat offenders from constantly doing the same thing again and again. I expect this will work out very well, and also expect that any points I receive myself, will be well deserved and will help me to not make the same mistake twice. I think that is a good way to look at them. As a guide to help you alter your behavior and words on the forum to be helpful and compassionate, rather than unhelpful and insensitive, and to help others do the same to you.

Actually, you can look with one click, on your username, just above your avatar and title. Then scroll down til you see "warning level" and "show all warnings." If you have a zero point warning, you will have to click on "show all warnings" to see it. If you were told you were being warned before the points system started, it will not show here.

If you had points it will show up on your profile towards the bottom under Auctions. It shows up in BOLD letters. You won't miss it.

I was about to post that someone that has points will have to fess up and tell us what to look for, but

, well, thank you CoyoteMagic!

LOL No problem.

Great discussion peeps! The most important thing to remember is that the BYC moderators love this community, which is why they spend so much time trying to help everyone out... even the peeps that are getting warnings!

One thing that we need to work REALLY hard to remember is that "infraction points" by themselves aren't a big deal. We see that some people get REALLY upset if they get a warning with points vs. our old system that was a warning with a note that said, "If you do that again you're access to BYC will be removed."

If you think about it, this is a pretty weird thing. They are the exact same thing... one is just more quantifiable than the other, but for some reason a warning with points sometimes causes a bit of anxiety, which it really shouldn't. There aren't too many infractions that instantly cause any changes to your account and pretty much all the points will expire at some point.

So, try to remember that warnings aren't a "punishment"... they are our way of helping our members understand the tone we strive for on BYC and keep them here, active, and happy.

HEY!!!! I just had a thought....

what about good girl/boy points

stay outta trouble long enough you get good girl/boy points... trade those points for coupons in the byc store or towards a GFM..

I think you always need a reward system as well or you don't have not much to look forward too. Its called positive re-enforcement it is needed. I mentioned a reward system already but not in conjunction of the rewards of other members the reward of who is in charge there is a difference.

It's an interesting concept, but I'm trying to envision how the mods would grant "good points" without the appearance of playing favorites. In my opinion, it seems like a VERY DANGEROUS slippery slope.
I think the Peer Recognition Awards cover most all the "good" member contributions. As most everyone's interaction is with their peers, shouldn't that be where the recognition comes from?
