I don't know if mine would eat pine needles, but you wouldn't believe the things they do eat! They are great foragers!
My chickens have never been bothered by rainstorms or thunder. Some of them stay outside and get soaked. I can't understand the expression "madder than a wet hen" because it doesn't seem to matter to them!

Lol! Apparently mine are more like cats. They prefer to stay dry. I heard pine needles have lots of vitamin A and C so I'll continue to let them pick...or should I say peck.

so we finally got to the point that we could move the temporary coop out to the yard so the entire garage space could be used to finish construction on the permanent one. We moved them outside on Sat night. The kids camped out in the yard with them because they were so excited. This morning we went out to let them out to run around and something got two of them. I'm so upset. One is completely missing. I just went to our neighbors to look in their yards, i've been picking up feathers all morning. I feel so incredibly guilty. Telling my kids is going to be torture since I treat animals for a living, they never get why i can't fix all of them.

Oh llandry I am do sorry. And the kids, I feel terrible. What did the temp structure look like? Your in point plsnt right? I don't know what it was, but it knows you have more so you will have to be very secure. Don't be discouraged, replace them soon If you can

This is just awful! I actually had to rake part of the lawn for feathers. I didn't realize how attached to them I was. I feel so stupid because I just didn't see this happening. In hind sight the temp structure wasn't secure. Whatever it was dug under the mesh sides. I saw a opossum last week in the neighbors yard. I wonder if that was what got them. My husband camped out with the kids. It was the next night that this happened. the worst part is not knowing where the ones body is. The two remaining are stuck to me like glue every time I go back there. I definitely want to replace the two we lost. Any advice on getting similar ages to the ones we still have or getting littles one again? Will older ones (5 mon) pick on young ones?
