Lol ok I'm out with family bowling and jus realized my bowling shoes are 21 years old. Ok I am old.

This afternoon i was cleaning the coop in the pouring rain and wind. I use a concave garbage can lid to carry the shavings from the garage to the coop. Do you see where this is going? Anyway, i was drenched at this point, literally drenched. i got to the coop and put the lid mounded with shavings down in front of me when a gust of wind came and blew all of the shavings out of the lid. Naturally they all stuck to me since i was all wet. They were all over my face, coat, legs, and completely stuck in my hair. I looked like i had been tar and feathered. It was pretty funny

yeah that is pretty funny. Lol

I'm not exactly sure how they'll look as adults, this will be my first time hatching out chicks from these guys. Axl my roo is a splash laced red. One of the girls is blue, one is a silver color. I did try to incubate the eggs twice before, but they were all clear. I was worried Axl wasn't doing his job, but a good number of these eggs developed. There is a slight chance that my blue wheaten ameraucana roo is the father of the chicks - he's kept separate but the groups free range together occasionally. But Axl is very protective of his girls and he is pretty vigilant about letting the other roo breed. I'll know for sure once the chicks start feathering out - if there are any that are NOT blue or splash, then the ameraucana is the dad. Axl should only produce blue/splash chicks, so no black feathers. The BW would produce 50% blue and 50% black. But the exact pattern of each...I really can't predict. I need to learn more about chicken genetics - I am somewhat of a genetics nerd, but haven't found any good sources to learn about the genetics of chicken colors... I would be okay with the BW roo being the dad, he's from really good lines and they are known for their egg color. But I was hoping to breed some blue laced EE's, so am hoping Axl was getting the job done! LOL Here are the two EE hens Most of the chicks hatched from the darker turquoise eggs - I think Rue, the girl below, lays those, but I'm not 100% sure. Axl And the BW ameraucana roo I have about 5 more marans chicks out today - two more are still hatching. The one OE is almost out, I don't think the other OE is going to hatch And one silkie is almost out. I finally broke down and ordered a "real" incubator - my homemade one has been doing a good job, it's been more fertility than anything, but I wonder if I could do better...LOL

Lol your dad is the ultimate enabler.  So where are you going to school? I'm assuming your living on campus. If so I think it's a great experience and wish you luck. 

I'll be leaving at some point over the summer for Cornell. I was ecstatic to find out I was accepted to their veterinary medicine program. I'm looking forward to moving to a new state and happy that this time around ill be able to live off campus. Also excited that off campus housing typically allows their vet students to have pets! (Sometimes I think I'm more excited about that than going to actual vet school! Lol)

I bought a bunch of new hens last summer so we have a ton of eggs. Mostly I'm hatching a bunch of mixes from my flock and Kahlua was super nice and offered me some turken/showgirl mix eggs to try out. Those should hatch in two more weeks. The other eggs are due between the 20th & 21st.

Wow - congrats!! I've been thinking about going that route - I still have about 2 years before I'll be ready to apply to any vet schools, but I'll have to pick your brain sometime, if you don't mind
