We are using part of our shed in the back yard as the coop and attached a run next to it. We do have almost a half an acre, but the shed happens to be on the edge of our property and our neighbors. They were ok with it before, so hopefully it will work out ok again. I checked codes too and it is fine, and the chief of police lives across the street and knows we raise chickens. Clarksboro is real nice and quiet. You will totally enjoy raising the chicks into chickens. How about you, what is you set up and are your neighbors good? We have looked into moving to that area, I really like Clarksboro.
Cute! Don't worry about the thermomometer. Mine broke the second day I had it. I was kinda just estimating temps, and my birds were comfortable. We actually just got our first chicks ever today!!Our Coop is on the smaller side. It is a work in progress for us, the coop was given to us as a gift and claims to house 5 hens. However we are not sure our girls are going to have enough room. We are going to re- configure the design and build the nesting boxes on the side of the coop. This should then give 5 plenty of room. Our Run on the other hand is pretty large 16lx8wx6h. Our neighbors are great and are totally on board with it. They ask all the time when are chickens getting here. I have also researched Paulsboro Code and as it reads I am allowed to have them. Fingers crossed no one makes a fuss. I don't want to be the next "pig lady" of Paulsboro. Also here is our set up. I don't know what to do with these ladies. They keep shifting around, one minute they are under the light next they are spread out. Right now they are in there chatting up a storm?? I also just found our thermometer to not be working correctly.![]()

Welcome.I am Central Jersey shore area. My family and I got 3RIR hens 2 weeks ago and 1 araucana hen on Friday. 2 of the RIRs are laying now and the araucana was laying at the farm so we assume she is just getting used to her new home.
WOW.. I think I saw you in Kirby's yesterday around 1;30/2, the dog was trying to check out your birds? Those birds are beautiful!!!Whew! Back from Delmarva! Am late getting on here because I had to schedule in several errands on the way back, then had (a very long but enjoyable) dinner with a friend that went very late. Unpacked the birds and luggage - will save the rest for tomorrow. Didn't win Show Champion, but didn't mind losing to the incredible Sumatra Cock that won. It's such a privilege to be on Champion Row!
Stopped by Kirby's in Medford on the way - if you're in the area, stop by and tell them Mary sent you. It's a great feed store, and they have the most adorable baby goats!
Ginny, it was great to see you - glad you had a good time. (When I got home, discovered Ben had escaped the cage and has probably spent the whole weekend running around in my room - finally caught him after about an hour of tearing my room apart!)
Gail - I was in and out all day. Actually had a tailgate lunch with a friend because of the great weather - maybe I missed you then. We'll all have to exchange cell phone numbers so we can text each other at Sussex. (Hint - at 10am there is the newbie info session - we can all meet then, and you guys can listen to me spew about chickens and showing!)
Jslev - the "Central Jersey Shoe area" is pretty big - can you be more specific? And welcome!
Mary you should call Ben HoudiniYou must be so tired Snowing here
Anyone know any Dominique breeders?
