New Jersey

I have regularly come across people who think they are mindless automatons with feathers - no brain at all.  They think that's where bird-brain comes from - because they have no brains.  (Ok, they don't help their own poor reputation by staying out in the rain, but still...)  Along with that goes the assumption that they cannot feel pain.  Get used to it - you will find this attitude more common than not.  Don't get upset - just feel sorry for people who live with that kind of ignorance and lack of compassion.  In a weird way, it kind of enhances the joy and excitement of discovering how "with it" they are, how involved they are in participating in their world.  It's like we chicken owners are privileged to watch a slice of life that others never get to see, and our own lives are enhanced by it.  Watching "chicken tv" never gets old.

That's so sad but its the ignorant people who lose out. Ignorance makes you lose out on a lot of the great things life has to offer us though. We also have a pitbull. Not that I'm comparing them and chickens lol but talk about ignorance and lack of compassion!

Ok guys I am going to share some pictures of my EE to see what you think about "her".........
I am heavily leaning toward the fact that Macie may actually be Mikey. What do you think
hatch date of 3/5
P.S. she/he has yogurt stuck to her from the yogurt party this afternoon.

Oh sorry, but I'm saying boy too. You will soon see some dark feathers poking through in the should/back area. All EE are different, so just give it till seven weeks, it should be evident by then.

Yes, My husband I both think she is a Roo. Her actions are very different the the other four and in the past week they have changed even more. When I go in to pick up the girls "Mikey" kinda puffs out her chest a little. My husband was the first to point it out. I will hold out hope that we are wrong, I will be super sad to see him go. However my husbands Grandmom wants a EE Roo so it looks like all will be happy in the end anyway. I will revisit this in a few weeks with new pictures to see what we think.
Thanks

Hi, I'm a novice chicken enthusiast looking for a reputable breeder of heritage birds in or near the garden state. I recently started my flock from McMurray stock with mixed results and I'd like to go the local route for sourcing chicks in the future. A couple of hours' drive is ok too. Any leads? Also, anybody else located in NW Jersey? I'm just outside of Hackettstown on Schooley's Mountain, right where Morris, Hunterdon, and Warren counties converge. Glad I found this thread!

Mark

Hi Mark. I don't have any heritage birds for sale (just a bunch of mixed birds!) but I'm fairly close to you. I live in Hope about a half hour from hackettstown. Glad to see you joined! You may like to check out the Sussex poultry show on may 18th. Tons of really nice birds for sale there!

Check out the thread for the show here:

Well I picked up Piper and Pippa today. They are adorable. And hearing my kids say Awww is so cute. Here's a couple quick picks. My son made me laugh. After I took this pick she pooped on his seatbelt and he started to gag. Lol I couldn't help but laugh.
