I've had virtually no problem with flies ever since I started using DE everywhere - in their food, in the nest boxes, on the roosts, in the run.  I spread it like it's going out of style. 

Where do you get your DE it seems so expensive for a little container.

I'm so upset this morning. I'm devastated! My favorite chicken was taken by a Fox last night. It broke through the pen and and into the coop. It had 20 others to choose from and it took my little D'uccle rooster. I just can't believe it. He's the little guy in my avatar. That's him at about 5 months. I sure will miss him. : (

So sorry. Why do they always take the favorite?

Loss of my D'Uccle. Thank you for your condolences. Yesterday I spent the evening making sure all the coops are better secured. I put new doors on them. This should be more secure. Gonna keep updating so this doesn't happen again. Been here for 1 1/2 years with my birds and had no problems with the fox until just this week. Thought I was good. Guess not. Hopefully this will keep them out.

I know how you feel. My favorite was taken by a fox too. Actually, my two favorites were out of our entire flock... which have all been since killed by a bear

Ok - I've had it with my crazy Ameraucanas! They are noisy, spastic, and I think they are the beard assassins that have been ravaging all of my other birds. (As I raise and show Faverolles, this is a major problem!) Love the eggs, but I can't take it anymore! I'm looking for a new home for them - ideally NOT with show birds.

I have two. They are blue, of great stock, a bit over a year, laying well. Plenty of free-ranging space would be good, if they are indeed attacking all of the beards in my flock. Extra time running around a larger property may be what cures them.

Thank you Zach! I have also hatched several. It's just he was my favorite. Guess maybe one of his boys will have to take over when they grow up.

Hi everyone!

My first hens are 12 weeks old and I am expecting 4 more next week. I have read so many different ways to introduce new chicks to an established group. The most common suggestion is that they should be introduced at about 5 weeks (separated by some fencing) then, after about a week let them spend time together but under supervision. Is this right? I am looking for very much needed advice. My first group of 9 are wonderful - they get along very well and have great personalities (all very different). I am hoping they welcome the new additions with open arms (wings!). I've read so many horrible stories about newer chicks getting pecked to death.

now the dog barks to much! I am going to keep some they are therapy birds I talk to them when I'm feeling down. We have been talking alot lately. the 2 in the avatar need to go together. boy and girl bantams

They will be a day old when shipped so by the time I get them they will be about 3 days old.
