What I always recommend is, between now and the next show, to keep a notebook handy and fill it with questions as they come to you.  Bring it to the show, and ask the exhibitors. Don't forget it!  I can guarantee that you won't remember half of them once you get distracted by all the birds.

Yeah I could imagine that it gets distracting! Thanks!

Uuuugh. Those stinkin' migrating hawks. Lost my best broody salmon faverolles to one today. She was such a sweetie too. Back to the covered run u.til migration is over. That is assuming i can get the gate open (it is swollen shut).

My feeling is, they're never not out there somewhere. Sorry about your girl!

Yeah, we have a contingent of resident hawks, eagles, and owls, but between November and March the number of them doubles. This one must have been huuuuge considering the claw marks left in the snow. Could have been an eagle or really early owl. The attack happened around 3 PM, so a bit on the early side for an owl, but we do have a number of great horned owls around. I didn't see the attack this time, but no prints in the snow going to or from the carcass and the large claw marks scratched around the remains only leaves aerial predator or alien on the list.

Now I am down to 2 faverolles. I might have to get some more of them this year, I just love their gentle natures and goofy personalities. Mary, do you still raise them? I have lost track of what you are concentrating on these days.

I do - just got Reserve Champion Continental at the Congress last weekend! But, I don't breed LF myself, as I don't have a male here. Considering hatching out some bantams, but the girls haven't start laying yet. I picked them up last fall, and they are about three, so I may be out of luck there. Sigh. Unfortunately, I'm at capacity, so I can't order any more younger ones, although I may get a batch of eggs and just keep one or two. Sigh, again. It's an addiction.

What size are you looking for?

Congrats on the win! I generally keep LF, but am looking at incorporating some bantams this year just for fun. My daughter wants modern games and belgian D'anvers... so she gets a pen of her own this year.

I also have 2 breeding pens going up this spring, so I might even keep back a couple of roosters from this year's hatches. Not sure what breeds yet though. I think I am moving away from the brahmas, they are very lovely, docile, and pretty to look at, but they take up a lot of room and eat me out of house and home. I still have my dk brahma rooster (he is a doll) and his 4 hens, so they might get a pen. My other current rooster is a crested cream legbar. He is beautiful and his hens are great too. So, I will have room for 1 more rooster.

I have 6 salmon Faverolles which two of them are pullets. I should have chicks for sale by the Sussex show and be able to tell if pullets or cockerels if either of you would like?

Zach, I think a pullet or two might be a nice addition. I will have other chicks hatched that will probably be about the same age by then, so integration should be smooth too. I will let you know for sure as the show gets closer, along with the eggs we chatted about. Thanks!
