New Jersey

Anyone get hit with that freaky thunderstorm last Friday? I had the pleasure of watching my gazebo get lifted, flipped and land on our coop! I was inside freaking out and went outside to do something - anything! And in the pouring rain I flicked rain and dirt off my hand, and off went my wedding band and engagement ring! Luckily I found them. Here's the aftermath.

Our chicks were fine, it was me that was freaking out! I was kind of hoping it did damage our coop - I think it is the biggest little piece of crap - but it actually was not damaged at all. But my DH is building a new one anyway! It's amazing the things you realize after you get your chicks in their house!

ATTENTION NEW JERSIANS - where do you get your chicks?! I might just order - but if I could pickup somewhere within an hour's drive, that would be lovely!

I am in Salem County by the way!!!

Salem... That's up north right? Is Jackson (Ocean County) too far for you? There is a place called Jersey Chickens that sells birds. I didn't get mine from there, but I might get one or two from them in the near future. You can look up their site. Just look up Jersey Chickens on Google. They are pick up only.
I ordered mine from My Pet Chicken if you were interested in online hatcheries. They are very fast, cooperative, have a nice selection (not now though because its the end of the year), and have very healthy chicks. I chose this hatchery because it has sexed bantams, and a low minimum order quantity. Good luck, and do tell us your decision.
Oh yeah, and

I just found this thread and I am SOOOOOOO excited!!! Hello from Burlington County! Pemberton Borough to be specific. And I am going to reach out to ThatChick in Pemberton for sure!!! I got my 3 GSL's and 2 bantams (which I recently learned are both roo's) in April so they are now 12 weeks old. Here are some recent pictures.

I would like to trade them for a standard roo and another layer. As hard as it will be to give them up (I have had them since week 1) he seems too aggressive and I'm afraid it will only get worse. I want to find them good homes where they won't end up on the dinner table - they are my pets and I could NEVER do that! I'm actually thinking of giving up chicken (I don't eat red meat so would not be too hard). I would like a sweet standard roo.

I have a roo if you're interested? I'm in Moorestown, so I think we must be pretty close? Here are some pictures of him. I was just going to take him to the shelter saturday, because I can't keep him here. But he's super sweet to my two POL pullets. Just today I was giving them frozen peas, and I swear he was saying to the girls: "look, look, look" - at least that's what it sounded like :) But he didn't eat any until the girls ate what they wanted and walked away. It just breaks my heart that I can't keep him, and I'd resigned myself that he was going to have to go on saturday. Let me know if you're interested at all?

Hey Mingming, congrats on the egg! That's so awesome. I'm hoping for my first eggs around mid september. It'll be their bday present to me :)

I got two chickens (BO and RIR) from Jersey Chickens and I would highly recommend them. I got my two BR's from the agway in englishtown.

Thanks!! I got another egg today! They're super small but amazing, and the yolk color is almost orange. I still don't know who's laying it though :)

I got my first set of orps from a breeder in Egypt, which was north of me...but they're the ones that are laying now. Egypt? Does that sound right? Maybe New Egypt? He's always advertising on Craigs list... I'm not from here (can you tell??).

Welcome PeepsAreForMe!! I'm in Jackson, right by great adventure and we got hit with that storm last week. Just a lot of branches down. Mingming's Roo is handsome, a lemon cuckoo Orpington I think she said and if I remember her town ordinance says no Roos :( I hope you can take him.

Thanks for the welcome! I saw your speckled sussex roo too, he's beautiful! I originally wanted a SS and ordered one online, along with a GLW and a buff orp back in April, and when they said they would not ship until July, I went to Agway and bought a few what I thought were all girls. I got two roos. My DH noticed the shyer of the two pecking at one of my girls this morning. No mean roo's at our house!!
