New Jersey

We got two chicks today! They're less than a week old and I had a flash back of bringing twins home from the hospital. i put them down in the backyard and looked at my husband and said "now what?" Except before it was a crib! :)  They are the cutest things ever. We went with a RIR and a Polish. I wanted to go to Jersey Chickens again but couldn't get him on the phone and didn't want to make the trip out if he wasn't home. We went somewhere closer and I'm so nervous because he doesn't sex them so it's a gamble. Guess we'll see in a few months.  I tried to post pics but I'm having trouble. I think it's cause I'm using a tablet.

Oh wow those are little ones. I haven't had any that young either, YET! I hope they are girls also, just so you don't have to start all over again.

My first set of chicks were about 3 weeks old when we got them, and the next set (always the way, right??) were 3 days old. The 3 day old ones (who are 9 weeks old now) are so much friendlier... I still can't decide if it's because they've been given constant attention since they were babies or because they're hatchery vs. the first set that cane from a breeder. Anyway, we love them all :)

And the funny thing was with the first set, he threw the white orp in "as an extra" ... but I think he was culling his flock - she's got a bent toe - which doesn't seem to affect her at all.... and she's the best layer too :)

I found this funny post regarding how to get ready for sewing, and I thought I'd share... it's how we get ready to take care of our chickens, I'm sure

That is so funny. I wouldn't want to get caught looking unkept. Lol. I ran out there this morning to let the rooster out since he wouldn't be quiet. It was 6:25 and I can't imagine if I saw a neighbor what I would have done.

BAhahaha!!! i love that post about sewing, seeing as i do a lot of it!!! I don't think i have ever "prettied" myself up just to sit down and sew.

I am also in NJ. Don't have chickens yet but planning on getting them next year when I can afford to build my coop!

Welcome! I hope you can get your coop built sooner rather than later. They are so much fun. What do you plan on getting?

only 6 birds since i am not really supposed to have them anyway. i have to go talk to the neighbors and see if they mind. 2 EEs, 1 white leghorn, 2 silver cuckoo marans, and 1 RIR (at least that is what i plan on getting). I really hope i can get them sooner too!
