new keeper in MA: mypetchicken OR meyers hatchery?

:welcome
So glad to have you with us!:hugs
I'm a big My Pet Chicken supporter - especially for supplies. They state 7-8 day ship time but it usually goes out the next day and I get it within 2. This came in handy with heating mats. As we experienced a severe temp drop on the East Coast - I ordered 2 mats from MPC and an additional 2 from another supplier to make sure I had enough in time so I didn't wind up with chicken popsicles - paid for overnight shipping - and still got the MPC ones sooner.
I've only had one chick die after receipt and they replaced/refunded immediately. I've not tried Myers or any other hatchery but Lamaremybabies mentioned TSC chick days. I have done that (I have 4 of them around me) and got lucky with the first purchase - all really neat and healthy breeds and mostly hens (just 2 roos) but did not do well with the next two purchases . Out of 16 birds only 5 were hens that were not great quality. It's a 50-50 chance.

Welcome to BYC Broody with chicks.jpeg
Welcome to Backyard Chickens!
I have not used either hatchery.

My entire flock is from eggs that I hatched myself

Love it!

G’Day from down under Peg :frow Welcome!

Sorry, living in Aus, I am not able to chime in on the hatchery question but did just want to wish you all the best and I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Good morning, all! We have been planning to get some hens since we bought our single family house last january. my wife and i have a 7 year old boy & 9 hear old girl and we are all so excited to start our flock this april.

i have been working hard, reading and researching and planning the coop & run. the coop will be 4x5 with 3 nest boxes for 6 hens. i am building a walk in run that is 8x10. the hens will also have a portable fenced area they can wander around in when we are home, which is most of the time.

big question at the moment: i ordered 6 hens from mypetchicken.com but now i am freaking about about some highly negative yelp reviews i just stumbled upon on yelp. has anyone had recent experience with them? should i cancel my order and order from meyer's hatchery? meyer's does not have ameraucanas but i can live with that. i also ordered a barred Plymouth Rock, Speckled Sussex, Rhode Island Red, Buff Brahma, & a Lavender Orpington.

please advise, thank you so much!!

I would keep the order and take the bad reviews with a grain of salt.
I use this site 'Dave's Garden' for reviews, and read the bad reviews. Many times the bad reviews are pretty ridiculous, like they are making things up. I've seen some bad reviews where someone from the company actually comments with exactly what happened and how they tried to fix the problem and how ridiculous the customer was, I think people forget most big hatcheries and companies selling products record all phone calls with customers and have a exact record of what was said and discussed.

Looks like MPC has 77 positive reviews and 10 negative on Dave's Garden, I'd go with the majority, and many here on BYC have ordered from them. That being said and was mentioned on this thread I'm pretty sure MPC actually ships chicks from other hatcheries, but still no reason not to order from them or keep your order, other hatcheries do this if they run short. I believe Strombergs hatchery also deals in other hatcheries chicks.
