Hey guys :)

Been lurking around on the forums for a little while and finally decided to create an account:

I'm fairly new to chickens, had my first flock this year. I had 2 Koekoek hens, 3 Boschvelder ladies and a Boschvelder rooster. Sadly, all were taken by -- wait for it -- baboons, while we were at the farm. The damn things ripped the coop open to steal the eggs, killed half the hens and rooster an let the rest escape into the wild.

We're now back in the city and I'm slowly assembling my new flock: so far it is composed of Araucanas, Lilac Orpingtons and a blue Leghorn. Ages range between 3 and 6 weeks and everyone is getting along splendidly :)

Not sure whether I have any roosters yet, it's always a surprise! But I suspect this little guy:

bit young to tell but he has a huge attitude on him!

Had to give him a couple of warm baths and olive oil last week to get him to "let loose" a little - shame, he popped like a cork. but he is going regularly now :)

Other than chicken, we have 3 fur babies (2 labs and a little africanis mutt!).

As for my day job, I'm a software engineer in Cape Town.

Anyway! I just wanted to say thank you for all the wonderful advice. This looks like a fantastic community to learn with :)

Looking forward to posting some pics of the guys and gals when they are a little older to get some gender guesses!

Hello and :welcome I’m so sorry to hear of your losses :hit that’s very sad. I’ve never heard of baboons being a predator before... but then I wouldn’t have, there’s not too many baboons on the south coast UK!

Great to have you here :thumbsup
