I have been raising hens for 35 years in CA and finally joining BYC after lurking for a few years.
I usually have about 12 or so in a 60 sf coop. I used to like to let them out to free range, but the last couple of years a bobcat has nabbed a few. Bummer...very enjoyable to see them pecking around the yard.

Over the years, I settled on Buff Orpingtons and Barred Rocks. For years I had a few Sex Link and I finally figured out that they were more aggressive than Orpingtons and Barred Rocks. I always had to debeak my hens, which is NOT a fun job. In recent years, no Sex Links so no problems. Can’t we all just get along???

I’ve been spending a lot of time in recent days on BYC to research Whiting True Blue. I just ordered 5 (in an order with 5 Orpingtons and 5 Barred Rocks). Ordered from McMurray, arriving in May.

BUT I’m kinda worried about Whitings and whether they will get along with the other breeds.

Welcome to BYC. I don't think be-beaking them was a good idea, it is more humane to just cull them in my opinion. Don't know much about Whiting True Blues. I did some research though.
They were developed by a man named Dr. Tom Whiting to be a bird that lays consistent blue eggs. They tend to have varying feather patterns and colors, and are an separate variety from the Ameracauna/Aracauna/EE. They lay medium-large blue eggs. From what I found they are crossed with a high amount of Leghorn, so they could be a little shy and flighty. I've also read that they are a little wild and sometimes prefer to roost in trees than in a coop. I didn't find anything about them being aggressive though.
Hope this helps enjoy your time with BYC:)
