Smart of you to research first, and you're right, sometimes the best way to learn is just from experience. Sounds like a pretty assortment of chickens and they'll give you a nice colorful egg basket! Good start on your coop! Here's a few articles with some considerations you may want to keep in mind as you finish your build:

How Much Room Do Chickens Need

Chicken Coop Ventilation - Go Out There And Cut More Holes In Your Coop!

Predator Proofing

Have fun and good luck with your new flock!
Thank you very much for the links! I have done research but continue to learn and will definitely look them over. Yes, we went for a variety of breeds, and some variety in egg color. The family actually held a chick draft as the kids were trying to claim their favs early on. We did two rounds and they have incredible funny names.
We live outside Houston TX so not harsh cold here, but the humidity makes it feel pretty miserable during extreme heat and cold. All kinds of predators live in the area so we’re putting security of the girls as a top priority. Our chicken space measurements end up at 4.5 sq feet per chicken with the coup, and 21 sq feet each for the run space. They will have free time in the yard once they are coup trained. We will have upper vents along all sides the top of the walls near the roof line and windows... working those details out today as we continue the build.
Again, thanks for the information.

Best,
Heather

Wow your chickens will be spoiled! (That's a good thing.) Great planning! You have received some great advice. We all hope you learn more about raising and caring for chickens and giving them the best life possible, but more importantly, have fun!
Welcome to BYC! We are egg-cited to see you around ;)
(I'm sorry, that pun is overused...lol)

A chick draft... hilarious! And you can't just say how funny their names are and then not tell us what they are!! We are nosey chicken folk here and need to know those things.

Your coop sounds awesome! My first coop was prefab and I mistakenly "assumed" it was already a suitable chicken home. Then I discovered that ventilation article and did just what it said: rushed out and cut more holes in my coop! (among other modifications) Then I built a new one. At least you're doing it right the first time. I also still continue to research, but I think the more you learn, the more you realize how much much MORE there is to learn.:lau

Current status of the coop (pic attached), walls are up, roof done, they even have radient roof barrier on the underside of the osb because we have high temps here in summer. The coop is located in an area of dappled shade, under tall trees. However, with our summer heat we didn’t want them to bake in there. Installed roll out white roofing with roofing cement today as well. Going to ventilate the upper walls well to allow good air circulation. We still need to cut and install windows and side vents, install hardware cloth, make and install coop door, and chicken door, finish run and secure with hardware cloth going down into the ground a foot, then build/install the run gate. Still a lot to do but made great progress today.
