New Member with chicken troubles

Hi from Australia. I've always had a couple of chickens since we love fresh eggs, but I am new to chicken raising. My silver Wyandotte hatched 4 chickens (/12) and clumsily squashed one of them to death and then damaged the leg of another, so I took it away an kept it in a shoebox with a wheat pack to keep it warm. It is only limping a little bit now and jumping out of it's shoebox to greet me. Should I give it back to it's mother? Should I place it under her at night, or will she reject it?

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

Oh boy, that chick is awfully cute! :love

As said by all others... really depends on how long the chick has been separated and the individual hen. If it hasn't been too long (more than a day or two) then I would choose the night time tuck so she hears the baby and wakes up with it under her. If it looks like the others, that can be helpful.

Hoping for a happy return! :fl

I tend to err on the side of caution. To me, this broody already has strikes against her. I would keep injured chick & one with foot problems & raise them in a brooder. If this was her first time brooding, maybe she will develop smarts for the next time. But, I would hate for her to cause further problems with these two.
