Hi all, I've been stalking a while and finally joined. We got our first chickens in April as 2 month old pullets. We started with 6 black sex-linked girls, gained another hilarious bantam type from a friend who had lost all but one of their chickens to a predator. Our backyard borders a large preserved area of woods and we get visits from just about everything that likes to eat chickens; we lost the bantam and 2 others to a bobcat in August (we think the bobcat was a female raising a late season litter so I guess I can forgive). Gained two red sex-linked and are back at 6 rather spoiled chickens. We've made a lot of rookie mistakes in housing and management and are smoothing those out, including building a fortress of a run :hmm. In addition to 'the ladies' our crazy blended family includes 2 parrots, 3 cats, a dog, and 4 teenagers. In my spare time (ha!) I hike, bicycle, and quilt.

Glad you're here twobirds!

If you haven't yet, please make your chickens a FIRST AID KIT for any issues that would arise.
It's definitely better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Also, make sure your coop(s) have a proper amount of VENTILATION. Your chickens will absolutely thank you for it! :D
